during yesterday hot weather, i took my civic for a drive to melbourne. with air con on i notice that the temp goes up to about 80%, then i quickly turn off the zircon and turn on heater full blast. temp falls back to half way,

but as soon as i turn the heater off, the temp climb back up. this happen to highway and city driving.

i check the collant reserve, full to the max.
squeaks the top hose, the hose is not hard, it is soft(ish).
Fan is working.
what else could i check ?

check thermostat , when warming up car check if lower hose is warm or not, check actual radiator for leaks or cracks there could be a blockage....

thanks for that DNY* BOY

there is no leaks, because collant still full in collant reserve. and it only happen on hot day...

just wondering how do i change the thermostat?

check your radiator fan switch & thermostat. If you unplug the plug and short the terminals on the plug the radiator fan should turn on (ignition power) if it doesnt turn on check the fuse and relay.

i actually got around today to change the thermostat, after that i went for a quick drive.

same thing happen when i turn on the cold air ( not aircon). . .

i realiase that there is no collant flow between the reserver and radiator... is that normal?

thanks for the trism. i will give it ago tomorrow...

so airbuble in the radiator will cause overheat issue ?

of course, its like part of the radiator has no cooling at all.
Also how long has the coolant not been changed?
Older coolant can also overheat.
Try putting in new coolant, do a flush and put in all new coolant

there isnt one for b series engines.

The highest point on the coolant system is the radiator cap , so undo that and use it as the vent for getting air out of the system

everyone talks about the temp going up when aircon is on, i have honestly never noticed that.

ive only replaced hoses and my thermostat, and my temp never ever goes above about 1/3, summer or winter.

hi ozhonda.

i did what bennjamin said.... let all the air buble out.

but the car still seems to warm up really quick.

From cold start, then i went for a drive, about 5min, the temp will raise to the normal temp, which is just under halfway. and just sits there.

is that normal, i thought it will take longer than that for the water temp to raise...

half way is fine.
Its been warm past couple days so no surprise that cars will warm up faster. If your still not sure just take it to a mechanic and have them look at it

as long as it sits on about half and never ventures over this mark , there should never be an issue. Do a week or two of normal driving and report back here with any hiccups

5 minutes to reach middle is about right. Same as my car. Once it reaches middle, it shouldn't move up or down much with normal driving.
