Make sure it has four wheels and that black stuff that goes around it.

Also make sure it has at least two seats and there is a steering wheel otherwise you might find it hard to control the vehicle.

It would probably also be handy to have an engine or at least one person who can push the car for you. If it doesnt come with an engine you might consider one without a floor so that you can push it along with your feet (ie Fred Flindstone style).

A windscreen is also a good thing as it will keep all the bugs and rubbish off you while you drive. Headlights are also pretty good as it will mean you can drive around at night.

Hope that helps

we do help each other

but you arent the first person to ask these questions

the answers are always out there

you need to look for the same things you look for in every car when buying

check for oil in radiator, or weird shit under the oil cap, means a head gasket or water jacket could be fcuked

check for bubbles int eh cooling sytem

look for rust

crunchy gearbox
all teh normal stuff when looking for cars

if there are small rust patches will this be fixable?

yeah can be fixed but if ur still on the market for a car why not just buy a car that has the least problems and go from there?

Also mate, if you are considering modding the car....try and look for ones already with B16/18 or even K swap done. It'll save you alot of money and hard work. If you can afford it of course.

Otherwise, things to lookout for would not be any different to other cars!

look for any signs of a past acco;
panels misaligned with the rest of the body
panels sprayed a different shade colour
panels with fresh coat of paint,

check seat belt lock up,
rust in the usual places
best bet is to bring a mate or mechanic with some mechanical knowledge and process how much it will cost to repair/replace parts.

And if you do end up being interested in a car get an inspection.

if u're concerned about potentially buying a lemon.. try getting it inspected by a reputable workshop...
Alternatively... call up RAC or whatever its called in ur state...
The Master check they do is awesome.. checks everything from brake pad thickness measurement to tyre thread wear.. EVERY single noise that the car makes is reported.. and commented on.....
downside is... its expensive... paid 320 for it... but worth it.. if u're making a substantial investment...

Just my 2 cents worth...
Hope it helps..
