my master cylinder is leaking in my eg5 and want to replace just it with a ek4 or dc2/4 one as i will be upgrading my brakes to those from either on of those cars with a 262mm rotor at a later date. which one is easier to install? are they both straight swaps? is it easy enough to DIY. i have basic car knowledge and basic tools. a link to a page with swap specific intructions would be awesome please. thanks

For firmer brake pedal feel, upgrade your brake booster and mc to ek4 or itr spec if you are upgrading your brakes in future.

If your not fuss about hectic braking and dont plan to do any track work or engine upgrades in future then you dont need to worry too much about upgrading.

I personally thinks its worth the upgrade to itr spec, you ll love it i promise. lol

Hardest part out of DIY is reaching for the 4 12mm nuts that hold your brake booster to the firewall inside the cabin. So having deep sockets will be handy.

Other things that maybe classified as difficult are;
* bleeding your brakes if u have never done it yourself.
* Removing the hard lines from your current mc. get a ring spanner
* and bending the hard lines if you go for ek4 or itr mc. get yourself a tube bender, or u can do it with you hands but it looks messy.

diy its not hard. have fun.

yea... if u can afford get a 15/16 master cyclinder from brakeparts... swap ur old 1 for a new 1.... n its rebuildable 2.... if not get a 2nd hand 15/16 MC which will bold on or a 1" MC n Booster......

If you are upgrading brakes, then go for the 282mm ITR spec while you're at it.

Only reason to go with 262mm rotor upgrade is you can get the parts cheap.

If you're going from 242mm to 262mm you will need new knuckles, rotors and calipers anyway.

Anyways.... ITR 1in master cylinder, is not plug & pray. The hard lines are in different places and you will need custom lines. Not difficult, but something to be budgeted for.

A 15/16inch master cylinder is plug and plug AFAIK.

If you have rear drums and are going to disks, you will need a 4040 proportioning valve too.

What size is the MC you currently have?

EK4's are 15/16"
ITR are 1".

so i have a 4th gen prelude that i can get parts off of in my back yard and they have 282 rotors and calipers. is anything that i can use from that?

i dont know what i have? i have front and rears discs so i'm guessing it would be better than a drum rear bretheren.

the proper tool for undoing the brake/clutch lines is a C-spanner.

Honda has a habit of using common parts across different models.

So probably, yes.

You will need to get the casting numbers off the various bits though.

I'm pretty sure the rotors can be reused. You will need to re-drill them to 4x100 PCD.

Calipers, maybe.
