No. All this does is to read and clear CELs, as well as display some engine operating conditions.

You can get them on ebay for $50 now. All it does is pull and clear CELs. This one seems to have engine parameter display, which is pretty cool. I tried to get that running through my PDA before using an ELM OBDII reader but it was hit and miss.

lol, tightass? Maybe. Why spend money when you could diagnose the problem for <$0.01? :p

It is my understanding that these tools reveal more codes than what the standard paper clip puts out and are more specific than the flash sequences.
I also thought that you would need some sort of honda service manual to decipher the codes to somewhat useful information.

P.S I called up Honda and got quoted $671 for a Workshop manual....nice...think I might buy 2 just so I have one spare......

Their a lot more useful than just looking up error codes.... you can view live voltages of all your sensors and injector duty cycles, etc...

Still looking for the obd1 and will update original post when i do find it.... but afaik obd0/1 don't have a consult/diagnostic plug so was probably an add-on to an internal ecu...

What i would be interested to know is if these scanners can clear the error codes on european cars. anyone here got one?? take a bmw for example... if a light breaks or if your brake pads are due, if you fix them yourself the error code stays and apparently only the dealer can clear them....

That's right. OBD2 is was released over OBD0 and OBD1 because it came with a diagnostic port.

where is the diagnostic port located in dc2r ?

OBD2 is more restrictive and more emissions friendly...each step from OBD0 to OBD1and then to OBD2 is one and the same step.

Can U read the tps Voltage on this dsp?

It just plugs into the ECU yeah?

I found it on ebay here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBD-II-Auto-Scanner-Tool-OBD2-OBDII-2-Scan-Code-Reader_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c39Q 3a1Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286 Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem200266731298QQitemZ200266731 298)

$60 + $33 shipping = $93 US which = $143 with the bad exchange rate.

In the listing of it's features it dosen't say what it can do properly,I mean it dosen't say it reads sesor volts or anything...
What can the unit do?

Usually under the dash if you look underneath. Can be on either the driver's or passenger side.

if you do that paperclip thing with the service connector and your car has no problems what code or blinking would it show?

dsp26
03-11-2008, 08:21 AM
bump dsp :)

lol.. been missing this thread...

yeah it shows voltages, etc... all scan tools do it... seen a few in the flesh. it's only really a neccesity if you have nothing else to spend your money on... makes things easier like calibrating TPS and seeing if any of ur sensors are rooted.

but such tools as these won't be as accurate as using the good old multimeter directly to the sensor because it depends on the quality of your wiring/grounding.. BUT.. i'd imagine OBD2 vehicles being newer won't be as affected by this?

since OBD is a standard.. makes me wonder if theres a generic one for a GTR and any of the current/future cars... hhmmm OBD3 maybe??

oh yeah beeza.. why bother with eBay when dealextreme does free shipping worldwide? you can get it for AU$100 with bad exchange rate....

but their free shipping takes a while but even if you paid for EMS its only like US$15 coz its only coming from China instead of the US.
