I was just pondering about the fact yesterday I filled my car with unleaded petrol and right after i opened the petrol cap there was a sentence writing "only premium unleaded" What do you guys recommend I should use? unleaded is mostly cheaper than premium. I was thinking of filling up my car once a month with premium and other days with unleaded. whats best for my car? I drive a honda integra vtec. 99.

Whats a Honda Vtec?

I didnt know VTEC was a model for Integra? lol

Assuming your "vtec" is a VTiR - use premium unleaded... you can pass by using unleaded, but ever since I've owned my teg and all my mates + their tegs, we've all used premium.

mate you need to revise your terminology a little -

all fuel sold now is 'unleaded', what youre actually asking is whether you should use 91/92 octane, or 98 octane premium (there is also 95 octane premium).

theyre all unleaded

So it actually says on the fuel flap "only premium unleaded"... there is a reason for it. Just as a little bit of study for yourself, do a search for differant "grades" of fuel, and see what the differance is between them, and what advantages and disadvantages they have... as this'll help you understand why a lot of people use a higher grade fuel... unless they just do it because there friends do.

but, if you do plan on using a lower grade fuel, try not to rev the car excessively as it'll ping... amoungst other things.

Just quickly is there anything wrong with mixing petrol

as i just poured about 20L of BP ultimate, and im thinking about filling the rest up with 8000 from Mobil

IMO, premium petrol makes my car run more efficient than 91/92 octane.
Apparently with the normal or 91/92 octane, your fuel will not burn properly. Hence, damaging your car or even cause your car to ping sometimes.

yeah i want to know that too and also whether mixing octane is bad? (say half 91 half 98)

there can't be much difference can there?

There is nothing wrong with mixing brands, mixing octane and mixing 100% petrol and those 5-10% ethanol blend petrol.

Just don't mix petrol with diesel/gas.

Yes, something similar to that. So if you accidentally put 91 into your can that requres 95, you can top up with 98 to bump the octane up a bit.

please read up on your facts before posting incorrect info on here...less egg on your face that way.

91 or 95 or 98 will all burn in a combustion engine. The numbers reflect the octane rating of the fuel and its tolerance to detonation (pre "burning") during the combustion cycle.

Now if you are able to control your driving habits very well then using normal unleaded instead of premium unleaded should not damage your engine. That means...no vtec.....no digging out of the hole in 2nd/3rd gear. Basically DRIVING MISS DAISY style driving

from what i know
unleaded is the 91 ron, premium unleaded is 95 or higher.
under my hood there's a sticker that says use premium petrol 95 or higher. my fuel cap says the same thing. 'premium unleaded only'

also quick Q. are there actually any cars that require 98 ron from the factory?

LOL at Honda VTEC.

i can say my car is the prelude 2.2L vtec model.
something wrong with that?
FYI when i call honda for prices they ask me if my car has the '2.2L vtec engine'. they don't ask is your car an Si or a vti-r.

dude thats because they want to know what engine they are working on. Of course they dont care whether its badges as a VTi-R or Si

their point was that theres no such thing as a model of honda called "VTEC" and they know he meant his engine is a VTEC model but the way he worded it was funny, thats all
