I know in VIC you can dor a REVS check for a fee and it will tell you for sure. Be careful is my advice. I looked at several cars with shady pasts popping up everywhere. Like my friend said, it's too nice a car to buy a cheap dodgy one and never enjoy it. Get what you pay for rings true with these cars for sure. As I have mentioned before, a car I went to look at was one of the worst "fix ups" I have seen. I am a panel beater by trade but seriously, Stevie Wonder would have picked this one. Damn nice colour though.

#Most panels had been resprayed-poorly
#RH tailight scuffed.
#Filler/bog dust all in tool well in boot
#Radio door missing, and no name CD player just sitting in the DIN pocket
#Panel gaps all over the shop

And most worrying was the unbelievable engine knock at idle even though the car had just been driven.

See below link to car.

http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/HONDA/S2000/details.aspx?__sid=11B92EC539DE&Cr=4&__Ns=pCar_PrivateSpecialFlag_Int32|1||pCar_ImageCo unt_Int32|1||pCar_LastModifiedDate_DateTime|1&State=Victoria&distance=25&silo=1003&seot=0&__Nne=20&Model=S2000&R=5745428&__N=4294965322+82+834+285+257+4294964924+1216&Make=HONDA&state_id=82&trecs=22

After looking at this car, I was so pissed off at wasting an afternoon my friend jumped on the web on his phone and we inspected another car close by and I bought it. Absolutely immaculate middle aged owner.

Be patient, and good luck!

James.

I can tell by LOOKING at those images, its got more than 86000KMs on the clock (seat wear and tear), and that its been repsrayed (front bumper looks different shade, but the key point is the matching colour toned HID washers - this feature wasn't available until 2004+)

EDIT: My old man was a panel beater for 35yrs. I know every trick in hte book. LOL. I used to come home from school as a kid ages 6-15, and strip car parts, sand back guards, rip out interiors, everything, but actual spraying. LOL.

I thought this one seemed like a members car, but I'm not sure who's? Seems like a good deal with a few mods anyway.

just to update you guys.

i went and checked out the car today, and i didnt find it to be that good.

the car was purchased from Pickles about 2yrs ago as it is.
i checked on Revs, and the details dont seem to be matching. i took the vin from the chassis (which on the RTA site, doesnt match with the plate number too!!)

im definately giving this car a miss, since the owner wasnt much help with info.

if your test driving an S, be sure to try and take it onto the freeway. Reason for this is that you get to check if the rear is vibrating (worn out shafts) and to see if the car can drive in a straight line at fwy speed

Hi guys, I seem to be similar to some here. I'm also in the market for one too.

It seems to me red is a colour out of flavour atm, so bargains there but white, blue & black tend to sell at a premium due to colour. Silver is somewhere in the middle.

Anyway, colour isn't a big issue for me. I'm after something clean, straight without an accident history with about 80ks on it. I'm not interested in modifieds and year doesn't worry me too much as long as the car's been well maintained. My question is, what should I be budgeting on? There seems to be such a large price variation it throws me a bit.

Would I be right in assuming :- (around 75ks & tidy)

'99 - $26,000
'00 - $28,000
'01 - $30,000

minus $2g for red, plus $2g for white, blue & black! Price would be fit for silver I'd guess.

Am I aiming too low?

ludecrs
27-09-2008, 09:51 AM
I think you're aiming to low... but i'm an owner, and I want the prices to be higher for obvious reasons, so we're somewhat biased LOL.

The red shits on the Silverstone IMO, but the 3 colors I'm not a fan of, are the red, yellow and Suzuka Blue (sky blue color, very rare).

But from a non biased point of view, I think that sounds about right unfortunately. Your prices could requiring adjusting since you want to purchase an S with less than 100K however. This is becoming a bit more of a premium these days.

If your not in a rush you'll find the right one with abit of patience, know exactly what your after and stick to it, I didn't, I changed my mind everytime I saw a different s2k !

I waited 4 months saw probably 50-60 s2k's went up for sale and get sold.

They are going quick especially with summer comming.

But for those prices your after and with low km's around 75km's you'd probably be paying a few $k more.

4 months of looking around and I found a black 99' with 86,000km's completely stock $28k so it's not impossible !

Good luck !

Well I drove from Canberra to Melbourne today & back to look at a black 01 S2k with 62000kms. The guys prepaired to go to 35k, and its been hit in the rear, which requires a new rear bumper + paint, and the car has the awful clutch buzz! There are some dreamers out there, and I think hes one of them!

I'm sick of looking, so i'm seriously considering an Evo 8 atm.

i'm on my fulls but nothing wrong with a P Plater with an s2000 and considering with today laws... that your unable to drive turbo.

if you've got a s2000, you should know that it doesn't need a turbo to be p-plate unfriendly

i have the sentiment that people should be more experienced in driving than your average p plater before buying an s2000. someone could get hurt.

$38500 for a 2000 model S2000 is a joke mate, which is what a few of them are advertised at.

Redbook values 2000 S2000s for somewhere in the high 20's to low 30's.

One already did.

Silverstone, 180,000kms, 99 model, $20K on carsales a month back.

Up here a dealer I know took a trade in for $17K.:zip:

I think value for money wise, they will hold steady for the next year or 2. The higher over priced ones will drop from mid to high 30's to mid to high 20's and lowe 30's.

all this talk in value guys. at the end of the day, a car will sell depending what people are willing to pay for it, and how desperate the seller and the situation he/she is in to get rid of the car.

considering its age, and the "coolness" factor, as more people will try and get their hands on one, maybe the younger generation, the same will go for people trying to get rid of them, the younger generation again maybe.

The damn thing is near perfect, 104k's for a 2001 model with 2 sets of original rims(black set and orig set), new 02 roof, re-trimmed seats, leather centre console, perfect paint Silverstone, HR springs, larger sway bars, engine and strut top bars, CAI and Fujitsubo Legalis cat back. hey guys, was just looking at the s2000 page. got a few questions regarding the s2000.

heres my situatio.. lost my licence for 9 months (speeding).

gonna get it back march 09. Looking at a few cars currently... im looking at either 02 FD rx7, r34 skyline gt-t, or a r34 NA skyline, and now interested at an 01 s2000. im 20 years old..... and was looking at some quotes for these following cars as "stock" from just car for full comp insurance.... i done a s2000... and was shocked to see that its premium is more costly for an s2000 as compared to a rx7? Does anyone know why a s2000 is greater than a rx7?

LOL! So you lost your licence and you're going to get into something quick to loose it again! Maybe you should be searching for a Fiat 500!

Jokes aside, it makes you wonder about insurance companies doesn't it. I've had 2 FD rx-7s and they are lethal. Perhaps the S2000 is insured high as they are so easy to rip the hood to break into...just a thought!

vyets
14-11-2008, 01:30 AM
Alot of factors come into insurance not just the fact that rx7 is quicker then s2000. They are both very expensive top rang "sports" cars.

When I had my celica back then, my insurance cost was the same as my mates 5k eg "GL". and my car was 22k. One of the most important factors is the "accident" rating. How common a car is, the area you live in also your driving history plays a major roll in the prices. Power plays a very small part in the insurance cost.

People are more out of their minds driving without insurance. Fair enough you can afford 30 - 70k to loose your car depending on how much you bought it for... but can you afford that other persons car/house/properly. Mind you a street lamp will cost you 3k if you hit one.

well i just asked my mate who owns an s2k in melbourne about this car and its confirmed your suspicions.

he knew the guy that owned it before and it was an indonesian international student who thrashed the crap out of it, apparently had engine problems (something about the head gasket) and was involved in a 3 car pileup which prompted a pretty cheap sale.

kinda makes sense if you ask me.. how can it have "passed" 5 x racv tests (which i assume are not cheap) and nobody has bought it?

just the guy does seem wired

he said it was his brothers car 6 months ago and he owned it for 18 months total 2 yars in his family
Maybe his bro wrote it off no insurance so he got it fixed it and now trys to sell it?
why would you tell peple you have had it inspected 5 times and not one sale. he even said sumone came down from sydney this weekend but said coz it was a sunday the person was worried they couldnt transfer it into their name that day and drive it back? so left empty handed? that doesnt even make sence???
If he was honest and said " box is stuff" for example or anything else then id acually consder the car for that price not just lie and say people just dont have the money and cant afford that car
we all got the money but dont want to give it to him
I was considering going to melbourn to look at this car (flights are only $65 atm) to look but i'm sure i'll be dissapointed like everyone else so i may be giving it a pass

Another one of my mates went to look at the car before we even knew about the accident and said it was one of the worse condition cars his seen. nothing aligns, crappy wielding in the enginebay because of accident it was just bad.

My mate knows the white s2k owner

He bought the car in December for around 25k hoping to make a profit off it, thats why it was forsale for 33k. My friend said that his mate told him it was in a major accident and you can tell just by looking at the car caus its in shitass condition. I've met the guy but haven't seen the car.

Another one of my mates went to look at the car before we even knew about the accident and said it was one of the worse condition cars his seen. nothing aligns, crappy wielding in the enginebay because of accident it was just bad.

And the description? I wouldn't buy it just because of the description lol.

if ppl on this forum can tell that the front & rear bumpers haven been resprayed then i wouldnt want to see it in person

when he brought it for 25k didnt he think it was way too cheap????

hey bro i don't know if you can help me out but i actually put a $200 deposit transferred into his account to hold the car, however after a friend pointed out this thread i told him and asked for a refund which he agreed to. i have copies of our sms communication which specifically states if i find anything wrong with the car that it would be fully refundable.

im now trying to get into contact with him (jason, i have his full bank details and mobile number) however his phone is switched off your something. do you think you could ask your mate to speak with him to tell him to refund me or something. i know theyre mates but i didnt do any wrong by the seller.

its either that or next week im going to the police if he doesnt get back into contact with me :S
