you should of just disconnected the negative battery terminal first, it should of been fine,
check the main fuses and the little basics to get it starting

check all fuses to see if they are ok.
If all good, just disconnect the negative battery terminal for a min or 2. Then try it again

dash or cluster.
if its cluster. check that the cluster actually works.
i disconnected my cluster on and off without battery off with no problems.
make sure you have the connectors around the right way.
you couldnt have blown any fuses.
UNLESS you had ignition on. which would be stupid.
when you try and crank, what happens?
light dims? any clicks or flashes?
if so your battery mightve died in the process. probably had the door opened while doing it, and your interior light was left on.
give us more info.
start off with, what happens when you try to crank.

yeah, you don't know if he blew a fuse, it could be anything triggering this problem, but your right try crancking it first, if it jsut clicks try jump starting it happened to the bike the other just clutch started it was fine,

check all connectors around the passangers side,
chances are the green connector near the ecu is the problem,
