so i have a 98 ek1 cxi (as you may know if you've been in the intro thread)

i needed a new key and dont have the red key, so i went to honda, got the new black box for the immobilizer, new red key, and new black key.
i was told i needed to go to honda to get the box fitted, but is it possible to do it myself? a bolt on job, does it need a honda technition to fit?

(i've tried searching and cant get anything)

when it comes to that sort of thing id get a professional to do it mainly because if they mess it up its their reposnibilty to fix it.. where as if u do it yourself and it screws up and then u take it to a technicion they might not have a clue what u did wrong to be able ti fix it? just my 2 cents.

Easy...

The black box is located on the panel from the inside underneath the steering column. All you need is a phillips screwdriver and 10mins if that.

Remove the bottom panel. Unscrew the black box the replace. Plug and play.

Hope this helps.

thanks, i'd prefer to do it myself, i got told it'd be ~100 to fit, and i dont really have that money lying around, so whatever i can save would be good.

thanks dc5 :) , i'll do it when i get the key cut

dont use the red key, it will make your two keys useless, its for emergencies only so u can get to a dealer to get new ones made

theyre under 200 for new ones programmed and supplied

imo doin this sort of thing youself isnt a good idea and is worth the expense of a qualified professional :)

you can fix the bacl box your self but you will never get your car running,

the black box needs to be programmed to the ECU.
