theres no reason for you old man to have such a stupidly high premium for that car unless

1) he's a shit driver... ie 5 at fault accidents / 5 different traffic violations
2) your not telling us the whole story and you are a driver of that car

I'm with Lumley (www.lsvinsurance.com.au). They're awesome. I pay $900 a year, agreed value with unlimited mods. The main prerequisite's are you need to be over 25 and the car needs to be parked off the street overnight. So providing the car is in the garage or driveway they would suit your dad really well (or anyone over 25 with a highly modified car for that matter).

I'm not sure what the deal is for nominated drivers under 25 though.

its cos your driving. They take the record of the youngest driver into account, not just the policy holder

 No probs mate. I had trouble finding a good insurance company that didn't frown upon an engine conversion and charge through the roof. These guys are great. Figured there'd be a few other ppl out there that are in the same boat so it's good to help.

what you mean limbo

when my dad did it, he put him as the only driver, noone else.

did they ask the age of the youngest driver? and did they ask the percentage of the youngest driver?

Did you say you had your name also on the policy?
Also what no claim bonus is he on?

my word of advice is to make sure you know EXACTLY what you are getting for the money you are paying... ie what happens when you have to make a claim? do you choose your repairer? does that matter to you? what is your excess? is there a hidden excess?

Depending on what your needs are, you may not be happy with what you are paying for. Just remember, the money you pay, is for the service you get when you need to use it.

you know if you don't put your name on it and you drive it & crash the car(not trying to jinx or anything), that the insurance company may refuse to pay out.

you know if you don't put your name on it and you drive it & crash the car(not trying to jinx or anything), that the insurance company WILL refuse to pay out.

^^ fixed.

Insurance companies aren't out to help you with your car. They are a business out there to make money. So make sure you give them all the correct information they need so they cant find any reason to not pay out.

^^ I second that..

Remember that as apart of any policy whether you read it (read it because trust me they will bring it back on you if you don't tell them).. You have the duty to disclose particular information in regards to their line of business. It doesn't matter if the car is registered in you dads name, if you are the main driver tell them because at the end of the day if you get into an accident they might/will not pay a claim because you or your dad have provided false details, thus paid a premium which might not have even covered you.

On top of that if after a claim has been rejected and you go to switch companies you might not even be able to obtain another policy because most if not all insurers will ask if you have ever been denied a claim for any reason.. and it will effect your dads insurance history as well. And if you think you can lie about it Insurance companies do have a tool called the IRS (insurance reference service) which is a national database of all claims (whether accepted or not) to which they can use to determine acceptability.

shop around and ffs be honest.

ps. should always look at insurance before you buy a car.
