i called up GIO and they quoted me 2400 for a 60% no claim bonus and 1 driver over 25

400 excess and an extra 400 performance car excess

thats 800 bucks

then they also say that they will not insure anyone under 25

I am insured with GIO for my DC5R and mods for $2100 with 60% NCB, policy also includes max NCB protection, windows protection, 14 days car hire.

i pay 500 excess being 400 basic + 100 driving history excess. i am 25 and located in sydney.

is your car modified?
if it is, did you inform GIO that it is modified?

I was in your shoe's 2 years ago when I was 23. I was in QLD though, but I got a quote for the DC2R for $1400 from queensland country credit union. They wouldn't touch me when I asked for a quote on a DC5R. IMO, is is very wise to shop around. The more qoutes you have to compare, the better. Read the fine print of the contracts as well. Some are more expensive for a reason, but some are rip off merchants.

i'm 23 too.. with Justcar insurance. AAMI wouldn't cover under 25s in a type R. $3770 with unlimited mods, plus all that excess stuff. NRMA was too high even before the mods, so I went with Justcar

i take it that i should go to just cars for a quote from then....alot of people seem to go to them these days

i plan to put it under my parents name and if i get in an accident (knock on wood) then ill pay the excess for myself being 23..... (sydney)

so im expecting 1700 with 800 excess?

thats dead cheap......my civic is 1500 with GIO.....why dont i just change to just cars with my civic?

William

Just cars let you have 12 road legal mods no extra cost....
If you dont list them, you dont get paid for them if you smash....

cos your an added risk after making one claim... it works on a sliding scale... you are now "more likely" to have another accident... stupid but hey thats what actuaries do all day - stats...

William: if you go with justcars or any insurer they will ask you the youngest driver. If you put down your parents as the driver, you being 23 will not be insured. I think they allow you to drive no more than 10% of the time. im not sure how many days per week or fortnight that is but i would suggest you find out. Giving false information to them when you purchase the insurance could turn around and bite ya in the ass when you need to make a claim. So i would suggest giving correct details in the beginning.

hey boost...so you say if you dont mention who the youngest driver is you wont be covered?... cos i'm 18 and drive a 99 EM1 and i did a quote under my mum being the youngest driver and got $894 but when i listed myself down as youngest driver, it was $2284... so the youngest driver makes you a preferred driver right?..

IRI
07-10-2004, 09:36 PM
Youngest driver is what they base the premium on....
Usually if you go under parents name, you have to pay a higher excess after a smash if someone not listed is driving the car...

yeah. everything listed, but i don't really done it up ricely.

listed : cat back exhuast, stereo, air box , lowering, 17" rims , but i did tell lies that they only cost me 2k. and GIO only cover 2K for all that. and yeah. i never had any at fault claim, but have many speeding and no at fault claim in past 2 years which is reflected on that 100 driving history excess, luckly not on the premium. But believe it or not, for the same stuff , Just car quote me $3500 for a 2 years old car.

yeah probably they haven't been in an accident or the claim that they make is a result of someone else hitting them. It's hard to say cos so many insurers work differently... all i know is that AAMI is the cheapest of all car insurers if you can get insurance from them...

For the record Just Cars is a RIP OFF... but they know that.. people will pay cos they can't get insurance anywhere else... They might have an "acceptable" premium, but read the fine print... ie market values and excess... every time i ring them for a quote they quote me a market value for the car i want to insure at 30% lower than any other insurer...

this is where they get you... they have really done their homework on this one...

In my experience just cars is only good if u dont have a fast car... ie... u have big rims body kits etc on a small car

hey get ur parents to inusre it fully under thier name... if u have an accident call em and give thier details... and get third party under ur name as a backup...in case the person u have an accident with won't accept ur parents details.

hey TRU: is it possible to buy comprehensive under your parents name and only third party under your own?? hmmm never knew u can do this.

But like type one has said, its true that Justcar will only insure your car for only the market value.

It still amazes me with the amount of P platers driving type Rs and other hi performance vehicles while driving under parents names.

eg. 400 + 450

i noe HBA n GIO will do it for vtirs (teg or ludes) n im 19 in melb... jus duno bout dc2rs...ta

you can get it insured under your parents names thats for sure. They will insure you if you hit and make you pay the age excess, considering that you drive the car less than 10% (even less depending on insurer, u will need to ask how many days a week or fortnight that is). If they find out that you drive more than the allowable they WILL NOT insure your..Whether they find out or not thats entirely up to them to investigate or not. They ask people living around you, you neighbours, the guy down the road, the girl down the block or what not. You really dont know, but if they do and they do happen to find out that you drive it more often than not , then they will reject the claim. And then your left with a hefty bill to repair the other guys damage and yours. But at the end of the day, you dont want to be involved in a smash and if you do, you dont want them to investigate. Its your decision and risk whether to put it under your parents name or not. :D

Sometimes it's better to bite the bullet and pay the bit extra mind you , i set myself a limt when i got insurance and i would not pay anything over $1500
I use to own a wrx rating 1 and that is what i payed when i hit 25. but obviously there are people are more better off than some and are happy to pay 3g or more for a modified or sports car, all you type R owners are paying the same preimum or similar. which make me wonder why you would stick to Type R's when you can own something more faster.
Honda's are great. Type R have never really interested me even when i was in the market for a performance car. guess i'm over it or else i woundn't have got a Jazz for me and my wife for now...next target Euro...that are fab

true just cars give you shxt market value...
my jdm type r (told 'em i purchased it for 18k)
they told me market value is 15500...
i rung up and got 3 quotes... different time saying i purchased the car for a different amount... trying to the the premium down...
in the end i'm paying 1550 / yr
i'm 23 in melb...

shannons quoted me 2700 LOL even if they were to give me 24k payout (amount i got the car for) it wouldnt be fesible for me to pay almost 1.5k extra per year

like my mate who used to pay 2500 on an fto full comp... only drove it to and from work... hardly went out (so pretty much zlich chance of it getting pinched)
did it that way for 5yrs...
now he's just goin by 3rd party

RACQ & Suncorp is the most expensive I have found in ringing around. They are more than $2000 for under 25 with rating 1
