A few months back i purchased some 00 model tailight to replace the 96 ones on my EK, they are genuine type r ones, no difference on the outside but theyve got the extra bulb down the bottom and already wired up from factory, however they dont light up do i need a different prong from the wiring or something else thats missing? i thought it would of being a plug and play.

I thought so too..?
I think the Type R rear light requires an extra bulb though..?

i always thought that the bottom light was like a rear fog light and u would need another switch for them to turn on and not actually how people here wire them up as brake lights...

hmmm... I've never thought of the rear ligh being a foglight.
But it makes sense, since a lot of JDM cars have rear foggies.
There's a DIY on here on how to turn your standard lights into EK9 replicas.
I guess you could follow that, and splice another break light off the existing one!

afaik it should be off the same harness, but the bottom light will be missing a third wire which makes the bulb brighter when you hit the brakes
you just gotta splice into your stock harness properly and it should be fine

Have a look at the diy. All you gotta do is put the bulb in the bottom hole, check which of the 3 wires from the bulb is the ground/parker light/brake light... then wire them accordingly.

Read that and it should tell you which of the stock wires are the ground/parker/brake
then just cut and strip the wires and then either twist or solder them back together
