fark

unless you want to kill teh engine do not drive it

when that light comes on, its normally already too late

the damage is being done

for how long has the light been on?

Like 10-15mins I guess. But I really need to get it to the workshop to get it fixed and it'll be like a 15min drive to get there.

Check the oil lvl !!! .. If its low.. then top the thing up and the light dissapears.. then everything should be ok?, .. if the oil lvl is fine.. and u cant figure out the problem it it towed to a mechanic.. unless you already been driving with the light on for ages.. then yeah prolly wont make a diff if u drive that extra amount.. since the dmg is done lol

OMGWTFBBQ!

Get a mate to bring you a bottle of oil. Check your dipsticki, see if you have enough oil. If it's low, top it up. Should fix problem.

Either that or ur looking at around $3K for a new engine.

1. Get a rag
2. Pull out dip stick
3. Wipe dipstick with rag
4. Put dipstick back in fully
5. Pull out dip stick
6. Read oil level
7. Put dipstick back in fully
8. If the oil level was below or near the minimum mark, get someone to send you to supercheap/repco/autobarn/BigW/Kmart.
9. Buy oil
10. Add 500ml of oil.
11. Wait 3 minutes
12. Repeat steps 1 to 7.
13. If the level is still low, add another 500ml of oil.
14. Profit.

That's the check engine light (CEL), usually triggered by faulty O2 sensor, high flow cat, failed cat, engine pinging, failed crank angle sensor, many things. Just pull the code using OBDII scan tool if your car is OBDII or a paperclip if OBDI

This is like a complete idiot's guide to check your engine oil level.

Didn't the instructor teach you on the first day of your driving lesson? I was being taught what is what. You know what? The car that I was driving is an EG6 (Singapore). The instructor specifically told me that I should only start the car after the Engine Check light is off. :P

dude, it's not ur body. u can't just push it a little more and get stronger from it.

it's a machine and they go 'boom'. it really isn't that hard to throw in some oil before you drive it.

No, to prevent it, you have to read the code, and then see which is the faulty part. Then you fix the part to avoid the light from appearing again. OBDI and OBDII is just the different versions of diagnostic system in the car.
