so ive got a choice of - b18c all motor eg
or
- b18c/b16a head all motor eg

whats better? power? speed? fun?

from what ive heard b18c with b16a head is alot more free revving?

would there be much a difference between the two?

help me make a decision!

well, the B18C7 (type r motor) runs a port/polished version of the b16a head

the b18c2 runs its own head

me, id choose the b16a headed motor, and dump in a set of ITR cams

I say b18 w/ b16 head, higher compresion and better flowing head. It has been done and proven before.

yeah? that doesnt change anything from my reply

i was saying that the b18c7 uses a b16a head, so id go with teh b18c2 with the b16a head,

Mistakes made again, yes the b18c5-7 type-r motor does use the same head design as the b16a but it is hand ported and polished far beyond the b16a head, this is why people think the b16a head is better when in actual fact its not better or worse its different, the b16a head and b18c2 head have slightly different port designs, also the b18c2 head has a 41.6cc combustion chamber vs b16a/b18c5-7 42.7cc combustion chamber so you do the math, personally id go the b18c head, dont ruin a good thing, dont mix and match for the hope of an extra 1-2-3hp or maybe 1-2-3hp less and the risk of a worse torque curve or maybe better torque curve and so on, hope this helps

Thanks

yes, but if youre planning on headwork, may as well start with teh b16a head.

if its good for honda, its good for us

To be honest i think the b18c2 P72 head is the best platform for head work, JGengine dynamics from whome i got my b18c race head flows 315cfm on the intake ports, he said he cant do that on the b16 heads as there is too much risk of eating too much material for the head to still be strong. anyway they are both good heads but an unopened engine might be better/easier and even cheaper. but the main thing i would consider is what i said before about the combustion chamber sizing, also to add the b18c2 P72 head has intake ports directed better into the combustion chamber from factory.

Thanks guys good luck

if you wack a stock b18 with a b16 head you do not get higher compression. You actually get lower compression.

You need to either shave the head or run a thinner head gasket to get the compression up.

Also the Lost motions assembelly would are better in the b18cr heads even though they are the same heads. Still some goodies to be had in the b18cr.

But if you are gonna rebuild the engine it will work out almost the same b18cr or b16 head.

since we're talking about heads, b16a1 and b16a2 is identical or different in any way?
eg. combustion chamber, clearance?
