depends what you're planning to do with the car, a 4.4 FD puts me on 3.5 rpm on the highway, 4.7 FD and 4.9 is more serious stuff, and wouldnt really be ideal for top speed / highway driving

I think he's asking what the ek9 gearbox is?

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks guys

I do alot of highway driving but i may look at getting a 4.7FD in the future as i will track it every so often

And sorry for the confusing title.... i worded it really badly <.<

lol well i'm gettting one with my motor.... idk i migth change the final drive to 4.7... will i need to change first gear and get that needle bearing too to do that???

Its gonna be N/A for quite a while so the closer ratio would be better

just to clear things up
the higher the diff ratio number the lower the top speed
the lower the diff ratio number the faster take off

for example:-
4.11 great for draging ...quick off the line
3.77 great for top speed...slow off the line

What Marko said is right. Your just contradicting yourself.

The terms higher and lower can get a little confusing when reffering to FD ratios. If someone changes to a higher gear ratio they are actually changing to a numerically lower ratio. If you were to swap a 4.4:1 gearset with a 4.9:1 gearset you would be switching to a lower gear even though the ratio of driveshaft turns to turns of the wheel is higher. If you swap a 3.42:1 with a 2.93:1 you are switching to a higher ratio. I don't how high ended up meaning low numerically or low ended up meaning high numerically, but they do.

A higher gear ratio would improve mileage and lessen wear on the engine somewhat but at the cost of less acceleration. A car is also capable of a higher top speed with a higher gear. Cars that are meant to do a lot of interstate cruising have higher gears.

so if i wanted to throw a 4.75FD gear in an ek9 box will i just need the FD gear??

ANything else need to be changed?

Usually you change the crown wheel / pinion ( these 2 parts determine the final drive ratio) , these are the parts you are talking about when you're referring to FD

Yeah thats what i'm talking about

ATS and The honda manual refer to it as the 4.75 FD gear but i'm assuming thats what it would be
