Hi guys, just wondering - on my 03 euro lux the sound system's not shyte, but it's nothing on my last one (alpine)...

I know factory speakers are usually suited to the head unit so I'm wondering if there'd be any point putting alpine 6" splits (which, correct me if i'm wrong, would fit in the front) or would there be no point without an amp to even up the crappy head unit with good speakers?

Cheers
Andrew

I've upgraded my speakers and also have amps so definitely you'll notice improvement in sound quality, while you're at it get some decent rears, then if/when you can afford it get an amp and add a sub,it'll make a big difference.I've got Boston splits in front,Alpine DDdrives in rear driven by Alpine amp(200WRMS),Kenwood 10"sub driven by Kenwood amp 120WRMS,Dynamatted front doors and "cups"on the rears using stock head unit with LOCs.BIG difference over stock.

OK yeah - I was wondering if I upgrade the speakers without an amp would there be any point?

I had a 1200w amp driving dual 12" subs on my last car but I'm not looking to pimp this one as much...

Sorry what do you mean by:

Dynamatted front doors and "cups"on the rears

And also where do you put the amp for your speakers (not the one for the sub which you'd obviously put in the boot)?

Cheers

Definitely upgrading the stock speakers even without amps will improve sound quality. The stock speakers are pretty crappy. For my rears i've got thick foam rubber cups that sit under the speakers that reduce any"mixing" of the sounds coming from the rears and the sub.I put both my amps under the parcel shelf in the boot.

OK thanks, so the head unit's decent then. Are the speakers hard to access to change over (particularly front)? I haven't really had a look. I don't really know how this car all fits together you see.

you would have to remove the door panel to access the front.

Yeah headunit is ok.Fronts you need to remove door trim and for new speakers make up a plate out of MDF approx.20mm thick to bring the speaker out so it fits properly.BTW i had mine professionally installed, took them 2 days!!

mdf's are pretty easy to make yourself if you have the right tools. ie. jigsaw etc.

it was a day's job for us.

lol get a good headunit so u can fine tune ur speakers. i bought a Pioneer double din with stock speakers and amp powering my 10inch sub. works great.

JunYu can vouch for me. he heard it yesterday

How easy is it to take out the rears?

OK, excuse my ignorance - is there some reason other speakers wouldn't fit in without MDF I would have thought most speakers had the same mounts etc?

Usually decent speakers have deeper cones and larger magnets so therefore you need to use some sort of spacer so the back part of the speaker doesn't sit too close to where the window winder mechanism is when the window is wound down fully.

Aaah righto, geez sounds a bit of a pain then.

By the way, my radio reception isn't that great (a bit fuzzy), what do you think might cause that? :)

Not really,it's worth it once you get the speakers in.My reception is fine so don't know what the problem is with yours. You can get boosters to improve radio reception but i don't know much about them.Talk to a good car sound place.

Would these be worth putting in the front (they're what I have in my old car)...

They'd be good, the only thing is you'd need to be careful if you install an amp as those speakers are rated at 50WRMS max.
