only reason why it might be illegal is because on P max speed you can travel is 100km/h and the speed limit is 110km/h

Your friend is full of shit
You CAN drive interstate (just make sure you follow the rules there and have P-plates displayed at ALL times)

Nope.
Max speed on Red P's is 90 (remember?)
Friend of mine drove to WA on his reds and had no troubles whatsoever
he got pulled over by a cop only because they wanted to check he was ok (tired wise)

no such thing as red Ps in Adelaide. only P1 and P2 and both have a max speed limit of 100km/h

It is not illegal for a P Plater to drive interstate..
Just make sure that you look up the road rules in the relevant states which apply to P Platers because you need to abide by them once you get there.. e.g. Speed limits, Blood alcohol, displaying P Plates, high performance restrictions..

so if i drive to sydney i would have to have p plates displayed outside of my car instead of the stick on ones inside?

You probably can because you hold a NSW license... Not 100% just taking a guess...

No if you drive a Type R in Melbourne you will be ok (most likely) due to you holding a NSW license
