hi, everyone, i'm a newbee to a DC5R. and jus wondering few question about the modification which i gonna do on my K20A.
1. i got a Apexi air intake kit atm, and is it gonna be better if I replace by a Mugen Air intake kit?
2. what can I do if I meant on bringing more hp under a $2k$ budget?
3. also wondering is there have any specialist or mechanic on tuning DC5R in Adelaide.

thanks for supporting.

u can do wateva the hell you want to it but if u dont get an ecu and tune the mods according to your car then they will all be useless. dont listen to the people who say "man i just threw on a nice header and my car feels way quicker than before" because in reality it makes no difference as the stock ecu cannot recognise the mod. If youre just on a 2k budget spend it on a nice set of coilovers/swaybar/strutbrace. OR save up a bit more than 2K n get a nice header, cat, exhaust, and KPRO.

not true. Bolt ons will increase HP, but only to a limit. To take it pass that limit, obviuosly you will need ECU. Stock ECU has learning curve, but can only learn up to a limit

intakes, headers, and exhuast, still give fairly good gains. I don't know the exact figures, but some cold air intake alone, have been dyno'd back to back from stock to give around 10kw extra.

your right bolt ons do give gains and you can't just say that they're immaterial coz the stock ecu is so dumb nothing will happen.
but an ECU is essential to take full advantage of any modifications

stock ecu so dumb? nothing will happen? I don't think so. Honda ECU's from factory and perfectly tuned, and have a learning system that retains memorys, and input signals from different sensors, that all together effeiciently runs the car. obviousley having a after market ECU, you can full advantage of you mods, such as adjusting air fuel ratio's etc. but i wouldn't call the stock ECU dumb.

And its not peak power either......With NA cars that are small in displacement i think the emphasis should be on mid range power and torque production. Get the parts that do that moreso then top end....i mean 9/10 do you drive on a track most days of the week?

A 2k budget doesn't really do much for a DC5R. But saying that, its a great car, make the most of it and enjoy everymoment with it.

i know who u are..
we just met earlier...
i'm rudi here btw....
nice car... like i have said before, if u want power, go for Exhaust system for a start..
or if u go for looks, go for rims and lowered suspension..
i say go for cold air intake first, or something similar. proven gains and better economy! (so some says) if you get exhaust, imo it feels like kind of a waste without a set of after market headers.

pardon me that was a typo, i meant to say that you CANT call the immaterial coz they are that dumb in response to what 'damienm' posted

1. I will use stock airbox over apex intake.....it just suck in hot air, mugen and gruppM are the best choice for dc5r.....or even J's racing intake..
2. intake, Exhaust is a good start.....

Why you need peak power on street? you only need them if you plan to track ur car.....I have street setup and track setup on mine.....to run on street, you should use legal street parts. illeagal track parts only recommand to use on race track only. Thats why Japanese parts have sticker on them telling you, you can't use them on street.

I am with you bro.....by reading some jap magazine they have dyno prove that bolt on parts did increase ur output. of coz with proper tuning will give you even more:angel:

Thanks. Someone who backs me up. i've seen the proof in real life, from before and after dyno's back to back from bolt ons. =)
