I think my petrol indicator measures the amount of petrol i got in the car wrong. I'm uncertain if it is or not so I came here for help. last week my petrol indicator showed almost empty, So i went to the petrol station and filled it up till full. It filled up 32 liters of petrol in my tank when the indicator was shown at empty. I drive a honda integra vtir 99 model. Isin't the engine capacity of the car 50 liters??? Well I filled up anyway I'm going to drive this time till the "run out of petrol indicator" flashes. I didnt last time because I'd think the petrol has ran out, It was almost on the bold line before the E. thank you.

I've got the same sized fuel tank in my car. My fuel light goes on, I fill up and usually get about 35 litres. Thought I had a problem with the gauge as well, so I've gone about 75ish km after light flashed on a few occassions and still only filled up about 35 litres. I don't think there's a problem, thats just how much the tank lets us fill up?
I still get roughly 450km out of each tank as well so I'm not complaining :p
Depending on the car, there will be a certain amount of petrol left aside as the 'reserve' that will be used when obviously, the primary fuel is used up. When the 'reserve' light is on, thats when its in use, its usually about enough petrol to drive approx~100kms. Thats why when you fill up it doesn't always add up to 50Litres.
On top of that, most older model vehicle's petrol meter would be fairly inaccurate, afterall it is most of the time just a float sitting in your fuel tank, and after many years, tends to slack from doing it job properly ;)
From personal experience, i had a fairly big problem where my petrol meter was spastic, very erratic, when i took my car to the mechanics, we changed the fuel filter (dc5r, which had the float attached to it, an in-tank filter) which we found out a bracket was broken from the previous owner doing something to it, which resulted in the float hanging very loosely and freely.

The needle still has a fair bit to go below the red line before it runs out of petrol.
My petrol light doesnt work - changed the light bulb but still doesnt work. Has me baffled.
So I just rely on my KM/TANK relative to my driving style and the needle on the indicator.

Oh man this place is filled with noobs, you should probably learn to search next time before you post a thread.
Have you guys seriously wondered why you only fill up 35 litres each time when its almost empty?.................Because the tank is 40 LITRES.

Well there IS something called a SEARCH function, or read your car's manual and it would have explained to you too.
