Noticed today when i let go of accel the revs like drops/falls rapidly all the way down to 1K RPM and when i push the accel again it bounces straight back up. Didnt used to do this. Something wrong/broken or something of importance needs to be looked at? Happens when im going slow like 40-50km/h ish
Car is EK1 GLi with D6Y4

before it would gradually fall n rise and i accel/de-accel, now its like free falling when i let go of accel and bounces straight back up to 2 something when i go to accel a bit. Doesn't seem to happen at faster speeds e.g. 80

u got an auto or a manual...?

so i assume ur saying that it disengages the gear then re-engages wen u press the pedal... (ie it doesnt stay in gear & engine brake...) that ur problem?

yeh im guessing ur trannys disengaging... sounds like it or maybe the torque converter or whateva the auto has is starting to go... hrmmm.. wonder who else can diagnose this...

it always happens at slower speeds with the auto magna we have and not at higher speeds, but thats not a good example cause the trannys ****ed in it. i always assumed it was normal, the torque converter allows for it.

so im guessing the torque converter or lockup clutch needs replacing?

when the car is in idle, does it sound like the engine is struggling to stay on? rev going down to slightly above 1k rpm is normal, thats how it is on my gli,
check your air filter, mine was really dirty. which caused the idle to struggle at around 1k rpm.

air filter was changed not long ago.
OK so far ive noticed
When it gears down to 1, it will fall to 1K RPM, then jumps back up to 1.5K and back down to 1 after gear change.
When pushing it a bit harder it will rev higher as per normal but the car isnt barely going anywhere anymore.

try changin ur auto fluid n see wat happens .. thats prob the cheapest elimination and also never hurts to do so even if it isnt the solution =p

faulty IACV?
how is it at idle? revs still bounce?
sometime the IACV tends to clog up with gunk, take it apart and give it a thorough clean with WD40 and see how it goes..

revs are fine when idle, stays at 1K (or lower). Might give the IACV a try nxt week (im in my exam period)

Check the accelerator cable isn't sticking and is adjusted i.e. make sure there's no slack in the cable.

Give the IACV a good clean out.

Do those 2 things first.

There is a spring loaded valve on the bottom of the TB that may have lost it's spring.
