Hey fellas

was wondering if anyone had an opinion or experience using xforces 'varex' range on your integras?

video of how it works on here, although most people i know have heard of it.
http://www.xforce.com.au/cars/view_car/29

one im interested in
Single Tip Oval VAREX:
Available Now.
Inlet Size:2.5" & 3";
Barrel Size: 6"X10";
Tip Size: 4" or 4.5" Round Double wall tip;
probably go the 3" inlet size with a 4" tip?

its an interesting concept and i was thinking of putting it along with a catback + headers from xforce also on my 05 integra type S.

4-2-1 style headers are suppose to be the go from what ive read, for lower-mid performance gain?
could it be an idea to combine this setup with the use of a toda RH instead?

the main reason im looking to change my exhuast is to create a noticeable and louder, yet not lancer/pulsar style, note at lowerrr rev ranges.
at stock i feel the car is only done justice at 6000rpm + haha...

did a few searches couldnt find any detailed reviews on this setup, lots of references to the varex tho...

sorry for the mouthful, just want to do my research before i blow big bucks...
thanks guys

i was looking at it as well..

wanted to make a full race muffler set up... ie straight pipe with 1 or 2 hotdogs :p
and using varex at the end..

would it reduce the sound heaps by closing it? .. since you can adjust sound with this.. compare to cannon muffler, which gonna make very loud sound lol..

We tested on our customer's dc5 type S
they work very well , good exhaust tone aswell.

^^these do sound pretty nice based on what i've watched on youtube... notably on V6s...

just a reminder though that their not ADR approved. fully closed/quiet mode won't get you out of noise test.

Have seen one fitted to a Corolla Sportivo and the owner says on fully closed mode, it's as quiet if not quieter than stock. So yes it will pass a noise test but not a full emissions test.

yeah i use one
its pretty quiet when closed considering i have a 3inch exhaust
so cant really complain, and the neighbours dont complain either
:D

the control is abit ugly though -____-'' and it takes up the spot of ur cigg lighter

no it won't because any "non-fixed" silencers are not legal.. same reason N1 silencers on cannons are instant fail. and i do know this for a fact because i enquired about this thoroughly and was shown the regulations at 1 of only 2 centres in NSW that can pass you now for noise.

1 fellow who came in had the varex, the other a cannon with N1 silencer... was rejected straight away without noise test.

like i posted in another thread only the adjustable remus one is ADR approved, primarily because:
- they paid for ADR testing and approval
- it's not electronically adjustable like the varex

anyways these do sound nice... just make sure you have it on quiet mode when you drive by the po po.. otherwise your loss...:thumbsup:

thats gay.. couldn't it just be wired in-line and tucked in?

yes it can

how can they tell that they are adjustable but?

the solenoid/motor on the varex sticks out like a mofo on the side of the barrel and theres a butterfly inside.

just hang on guys.. i'm scanning the check sheets now and will post in a different thread... you guys will be surprised what you'd fail for

lol.

the first post in that thread wasn't aimed at anyone in this thread... it's in a way a reply to another thread a few months back some people just kept arguing a stupid point.

yeah the varex is cool i want one.. but at ~$400 a piece + installation then having to source a stock muffler after the muffler shop chucks yours out is a pain in the arse.

Sad because Ferraris and BMW X5's have a similar variable muffler system stock, and are allowed to be sold here! Look up the rear of an X5, and you'll see that one tip is closed off. you can even see the valve mechanism underneath the tip!

Cars to be ADR compliant come as a package though before they are allowed to be sold in vloume... i'm pretty sure their variable system is automatic though and still pass legal limits.

A varex on full sing is just like any other cannon. FYI to anyone here, most fully stock 4cyls with nothing more than a cannon at the end get around ~106dB and yes i've seen the paperwork and testing personally. I saw paperwork for a 4age corolla at 103dB and a DC2 vtir at 106dB

also apparently DC5 muffler has some sort of bypass, would love to get my hands on one to replace the dc2r one i have:

I see I see.
Well good to see no one has brang any negative experiences with the varex.
from what ive seen and read, quality of these products looks promising..

So you think fully open with catback+extractor it would be over legal limit by that much?
if it helps im getting the oval tip, not the cannon stlye...

its worth remembering that although something like a Varex may not pass a noise test, the idea of having the ability to make it quiet is so you don't get pulled up in the first place

They wont past a noise test if a copper actually notices that they have a butterfly flap as well!

Its pretty hard to pick unless you look right down the muffler
