Okay..

So i've noticed a fair few people run rims with offsets for RWD cars... say like +0 or + 20 or wotnot.... and they stick out of the car alot...past the guards...I've been thinking about it a lil.. just got a question....

Sooo if your wheels stick out past the guards, does that mean when ever your shocks have to compress the tyre/rim will make contact with the guard/chassis??? Does this mean most people who are running Low offset rims have suspension which is like ultra stiff .. so that the shocks/spring wont have to compress as much??

EDIT: Im not talking about when the rims, are just a little past the guards or sit flush, and you can roll the guards to cure the problem.. im talking about when the wheels are sticking out a good 1 -2 cm's

rolled/lipped/flared guards with stiffer suspension and camber works.

people who have ulta low offset dont neccesarily have to have super stiff suspension. some a independant adjustable. so can be low but still not max stiff.

i dont think you can really do any peformance driving with such wheels on our kinda of cars ? lol correct if wrong.

BTW get sportmax for your car. it will looks the coolest imo

Lower offset = wider track = better grip under heavy cornering.

i got +15 sportmaxs and just put in skunk2 coilovers pretty low and low scrubbing whatsoever so far. even on roundabouts or sharp turns.

they are fairly stiff but feel alot more comfortable than my old pedders.

oh yep, i thought i was talking about camber lol. yer wide track and all is good, but most of these tire need to be cambered in heaps to fit thats what i ment. just forget to type it lol

SOo what happens when your shock/spring compresses??? No rub??? Have you tried having a full car load , will that scrub?? Im just saying by eyeballing it, you would think that if the shock/ spring where to compress the surely the wheel could move up towards the guard and hit it since it sits beyond the guard =S

And ur cas is da HawT btw!

i havnt rubbed at all yet. and ive really tried...going around roundabouts at like 50kmh lol and nothing.

i drove to sydney and back yesterday with 4 people in the car and it was fine.

skunk2 coilover springs and stock shocks is suprisingly comfy, i was expecting the worst lol. im gonna go lower in the back its a little uneven atm.

i got 96spec itr wheels on the rear of an ek hatch with a 15mm spacer so its about +35 on a 6" wheel
unrolled guards and its about a finger gap between the guard and the tyre
running 205/50/15 and it scrapes a bit every now and then on big dips when the suspension compresses a lot
running ground control sleeves with koni yellows

im running 17x7 40 offset with a 25mm spacer effectively giving a 'theoritical' offset of +15mm and it rubs on hard corners and big bumps but thats probably because im tucking the whole tire and it hits the wheel well.

this is with buddyclub n+ set almost full stiffest as well.....fun ride haha

if i raised it a bit it prob wouldnt rub at all. plus got rear guards rolled and slightly lipped

damn that's some pretty nice fitment alex :)

A camber kit will help you a lot if you are scrubbing slightly on the guards as it worked wonders for me. You are right about fitting smaller tires as well, to run low offset rims on our small car needs undersized profile and undersized width to fit and look good.

in regards to the spacers, although they are not ideal and i know this, i did go to lengths to make them as safe as possible.

In my case i got hub centric spacers in which i machined the center bore to fit perfectly on my hub thus taking stress off the wheel studs. the spacer is then bolted on to the original studs and then has its own coming out of it.

i wish i got smaller tyres

im running 195/50 15

i wish i had got some 185/45 or 185/40

but its not too much of a problem..
