Hi!

I recently got a second hand set of rims.. and it came with some nuts .. but these nuts i haven't seen before... there not like the usual aftermarket ones you see.. where it goes from tapered to straight...

Mine are light a little bit tapered.. then it goes straight.. then it goes into to a normal tapered section...then straight again and there realli long .. like 4cm+...

I find that when i put the rims on the car.. the stud does not extend enough for me to use normal aftermarket tapered nuts.. are there any alternatives to the ones i got ( because the previous owner lost 1 -.-).. so i plan on just using 12 of them and getting 4 lock nuts...

I attached a quick picture of the cross section of the wheel hole... and pictures of the lug nuts that came wif it.. these are my first set of aftermarket rims.. soo im not sure if they all aftermarket rims have the same sorta lug hole...

The Yellow bit is the current point where the thread in the lug nut starts.... the red bit is where the length of my stud finishes..( and normally where the thread of a aftermarket/tuner style lug nut starts i believe? )

Soo what options do i have for getting lock nuts, i know getting extended studs will solve this problem..

The bottom half of the lug nut is where the thread is, and the top half is just hollow... soo in respect to the dodgy picture i drew.. the lug threads around the section between the yellow and red bit i coloured in.

And soo my question is... Is it normal for my nuts to tighten the wheel to the hub @ the yellow part as opposed to the red part??? If i were to get extended studs.. would that mean the section between the yellow and red coloured bit is just a section of un-used thread??? When i am searching for new lug nuts.. am i looking for some that will tighten the wheel down @ the yellow or red bit??? Because the yellow bit is a flat surface..and most race/tuner style lug nuts are tapered and im assuming would tighten down at the red bit which would be dangerous?

Here is a picture of the wheel i got.. was cheap with tires 90% meat, so i thought what da heck.. might as well get them =)..nothing fancy.( just cheapo lenso's and there really heavy!!! like 10kg's without tyre -_-) ....im goner paint them gunmetal though =).....Also got a set of prelude saw blades primered that i was goner paint gunmetal.. but now the paints goner be used on these rims instead Lol..

After some loong googling.. i've come to found out that the lug nuts i need are called "Shank Nuts" They sleeve over the whole length of the thread, and fit inside the hole to help located the wheel when tightening down.....issit alright for me to no longer use these shank style nuts in the wheel?? or was the wheel designed to be used with shank style nuts?

Try to go to wheel place or tyre and speak to them.

usually they sell this kind of nuts for customers

good luck

I would stick with the shank style nuts because I think that thinner part is the important part that is designed to fit the wheel. Plenty of older style alloy wheels use nuts of that style so you should be able to find lock nuts. My ROH wheels on my charger use those nuts.

Nothing Fancy... Pic's updated -_-..

Soo i can conclude that.. even if i get extended studs.. its best off i continue to use the shank style lug nuts right?? Because if i used the racer/tuner style then a large proportion of the stud would be left unthreaded..
