G'day! :honda:
I'm thinking taking my car to a mechanic and install cold air intake but unsure what price is reasonable. I just dont want to get rip off so here I am asking people who have their installation done and how much did it cost.
i got a quote from this mechanic who have fixed my radiator and he'll charge me $350 altogether for the installation which includes brand new K&N air filter ($110) and a turbo fan $60 (i dont have turbo yet the fan just to increase air sucking). I havent check out other mechanics' prices yet in which i should but i'd like to get some opinions and advice on cold air intake..

I don't think the turbo fan does jack all... it's just one of them $2 hand held fans attached to the intake pipe... LoL... as for K & N filter, that's about right... but dude, don't think $350 is worth it... just my opinion... can be done yourself and you'll save a shiet load...

you seriously do not know how easy this is. it comes with instructions.
buy a top fuel intake/ js racing. its about 200~300 dollars and its a short ram intake this one. easier to install ., sounds great, and you will feel like your is more responsive

lol true, and dont get that turbo fan. doesnt do shiet.
well i guess you will need tools. but no need to lift up car.
were abouts are you. if you buy short ram intake i can install for you cheaper than that. just remeber it is illegal.
something like this is ideal. not legal however

OMG TURBO FAN SUPERCHARGED, but is this guy talking about CAI, I personally highly recommend if 350 include installation and all the piping, although the installation is jsut a 5 minutes job. Price of 350 wouldn't be the best price but includes the fitting or sourcing of Long Ram Cold air intake piping with K&N filter, addition to the shit aus $, it is good enough for him

Why would you charge someone to put a SRI on ? It's taking off a few screws and squeezing it on.
No one should get charged for a measily 2 minute job.

man, i'm confused i'm hearing all different stories from everyone about air intake.
One says dont install it in EK1 it doesnt help shiet, another says should install cuz it gives you power.
One says its fuel efficient another says it takes up a lot of petrol
which is true or not true? please comment pplz.....

well it gives tiny bit of power, cant comment about fuel because hondas dont take up that much.
i rekon money is better spent on a system. or something like that. you wont notice a pod filter anyway on a d series. better you get some window tints or sound system components

i already got both of those - window tinted and sound system
Just missing either lowering the car or adding lips and skirts which dont know how much it would cost yet...

defintely lower it lol. dont worry about engine performance parts. once your ready for it just swap in a B series. the current motor is built for economy so yer not really sports
you cant get any power gains from a SRI, well not any noticable gains..
what you can tell after install is a better throttle response, car revs out harder, better pick up in the mid-high rev range.

I didn't feel a difference on my EG GLi hatch with a SRI, but I did on my EG VTi hatch.
You can get some nice splits for that price range..And actually tell that you got what you payed for rather then spending money on intake.
You burn more petrol with a pod anyway because its allowing more air in alas making the computer burn more fuel.

its up to you, and what you like, no need to listen to people say" it doesnt do anything to you car"
cause think about it, they probably heard that too when they first put an CAI or somesorta intake on their first car.
u have to experience it yourself,
see, i dun really care bout the get go of the car with intake, i like Audioble extacy :)

thanks guyz. I guess it doesnt really make a different on a D series. I better off chuck in a B series to feel the B.I.G different lolz but thats only wen ima ready 4 it...
well... lowering the car, lips n skirts or an actual bodykit? which one would you prefer for best price?
hisoka
15-11-2008, 09:16 PM
definetly lower and lip. bodykit breaks so easily and cost more because u have to paint the bastard

Not 100% sure if the intake im selling will fit.
Someone else to confirm?
Almost any aftermarket intake will breathe better than the stock air-box! Standard air boxes usually have a few 'sound muffling' devices which rob power due to disturbing airflow.
I've done back-to-back testing on my old SRI setup then reverting back to full standard airbox and my fuel usage barely changed. I kept each setup for 2x full tanks and kept driving style the same (possibly drove less 'spirited' with the airbox back on due to being so quiet). All 4 tanks (near 4 weeks) were very similar ~ give or take 5-7klms. I'd pay an extra $1 per tank just for more audible VTEC lol

people get so picky about SRI thinkin nothing will work .. jst like omgzilla says any aftermarket air intake will unleash more power den a std box and yes i am one of those people who would pay $1 and more for audible vtec yo!!!
