the short block engine is normally just the block with pistons and a crank, and no heads or intake. Short block refers to the engine in its most basic form.

the long block is as close to full engine assembly, pretty much "ready to run" its the complete engine as it would be pulled from its functional space. Manifold, accessories and wiring intact thats from my understanding? but yea im sure more ppl could maybe add more? but something along them lines

dupac is right
short block = everything from the head down minus gearbox(usually)
long block = everything minus gearbox(usually)

short block does not include the head, its everything below the head i.e. bottom end only

short = block and the internals.

long = block + head + internals intake and so on..

long block is more complete..

short block doesnt get you much unless you're reall yonlt after the block..

lol couldnt be any clearer
