is there an easy way to pop off the ends?
i've currently done it via hacksaw but i'd like to have it uncapped neatly and not look like it's been hacked to hell

nah just uncapping the top
if you look at a stock wheel nut you'll notice the closed end is just a little metal bulge
cutting it off doesn't affect anything, not structurally integral to the nut anyway
it can be safely cut off and used, just wondering whether there was a sure way to get it off cleanly or do i just have to hack and file

guess i'll just have to hack and file then
i've done them to my current ek4 nuts, i just wanted shorter ones
didn't feel like paying honda $9.95/nut for short open ended ball seated ones

Some honda wreckers will be able to give you these for free. Its junk to them when they remove the cars wheels.
lol whats the point of chopping it?
