oil pressure drops due to oil cooler

i notice that when i go for a hill run, my oil temp goes up to 120'C, so i was thinking of putting a oil cooler in.

but i remember someone was saying if i put a oil cooler in, the oil pressure drops due to the increase in volume. hence will cos the vtec not kicks in.

is it true????

no it shouldnt be that bad

it does drop but not enough to affect vtec, i got one and its fine.
just make sure that your lines are at least a -6 in size or larger

Depends on the setup. Some have lost Vtec before. But yes you will loose pressure.

I'd rather find a way to restore oil pressure, rather than run around with lower oil pressure than stock.

BTW, you will also need over 5L of oil to fill up the extra volume in the oil cooler and piping.

Obviously if the pressure is not enough to satisfy lubricating your parts, you will do damage.

I can't remember now, but I think I had to put nearly 1 extra litre in with my 10 row cooler and remote filter setup.

Apparently it is quite simple to adjust oil pressure, (take off sump and turn small bolt?)
so ive heard.

there was a guide somewhere....you pull out some spring thing and stick some extra washers in....

Yep, exactly. Its the Relief valve. Undo it, put some small washers under the spring to give it more tension. So then it effectivly take more pressure to open it. This is what I have done to my car.

There is additional pressure drop across the extra tubing and the oil cooler.

If there was no flow, pressure would be equal throughout. As soon as you introduce flow you will get drop.
