Hi,
I found a Grill off ebay : http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-JDM-Honda-Civic-Mugen-Style-Carbon-Look-Grill-06-08_W0QQitemZ390008591125QQihZ026QQcategoryZ29695QQ cmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262
Just wondering if anyone would know if this will just be blocking the air flow. Or theres no air going in from there? Or it is there but wont effect it at all?
I believe that will allow for more air flow than the stock silver H part.
That grille off ebay has a mesh backing so it should be alright.

cool thanks heaps..i feel alot better now..i thought that mesh part was also carbon fibre and got a little worried cause i already paid for it as well..
Let us know how the quality is since grilles for the FD which mimick the Mugen look vary wildly in quality. From the pics though that grille looks awesome! I also am curious how the Mugen badge is affixed.

to JaCe: Will do as soon as it arrives. Hopefully its decent. I also wonder if it comes with the Mugen badge. Im hoping it does. I didnt ask the seller any questions. I should since I dont actually know wat I bought. Will update soon.
Urs looks good, where did u get it from and how much was it approximately? In fact, the reason why I decided to get it was cause I saw urs on google images!

the badge is generally held by 2 screws on the back. Unless you put heaps of glue (sikaflex etc), the standard adhesive on badges is not strong enough to stick on grills.
If it doesnt come with a badge, theres a guy on ebay who sells the backing with 2 screws for badges. I think his name is Blingbadge or something like that

I have that exact grille - bought it over a year ago and it's still not installed :o
Looks schmick from the front - but the build quality on the back is a bit worrying. The mesh is only held on via some plastic tabs glued to the back of the main piece, connected to the mesh via small cables ties.
The Mugen badge is just stuck directly to the mesh via the adhesive backing - and it's only a plastic badge, like the ones certain dealerships like to stick on your car when they deliver it.

that sounds very worrying..so u mean the quality is crap and the badge is not even a badge but a sticker?

The quality of the carbon-fibre look-alike frame is pretty good, so don't worry about that bit. It's flexible but tough enough
The mesh - although fairly thick gauge - might need a bit of extra reinforcement, you may have to snip off the cable ties, bend the mesh a bit to wrap under the back of carbon-fibre frame and secure it with a bit of double sided tape, before strapping it up with some more cable ties using the plastic tabs already there. (Confused? You'll know what I'm talking about when you get it)
Part of the reason why I haven't installed it yet, is that I was worried the mesh might come away and damage the radiator - but it's not likely.
The badge isn't metal - it's a fairly good quality plastic badge made with that bubble-resin-stuff (technical term escapes me) - if you see a car sold by the Tynan group around Sydney, it's the same sorta sticker they slap on when they sell the car.
Don't worry about it - the dodgy looking bits are hidden, you won't see them when you install it.
Next question - do you know how to install it? You're going to have to temporarily remove a bit of the platic edging around the engine bay - care of the way everything is interlinked underneath the hood. There's a how-to guide kicking around here on OzHonda, shouldn't be too hard to find. Give it a read before you have a go at it, it'll save you some hair-pulling and frustration.
Good luck :thumbsup:
EDIT: Sorry, thought you were in Sydney.

you cant really wreck it. I wrote a quick DIY on this thread (Your mods to 2006-2007 fd civics). Probably look at the first 20 pages.
Its a matter of just removing the rubber (4-6 clips), stock grille (4 clips). Then put the new grille on top and secure it. Then put rubber back. Im going by memory here as i did mine almost 1.5 years ago.

LOL you make it sound so easy. I remember it was quite painful trying to figure out how to get the screwcap things off when you can't see them. If you had the right tools (i.e. small things) then it would be alot easier than using fingernails I suppose!

removing it for the first time took a while cos i didnt want to break anything. After i installed the aftermarket grille, i ended up changing the mesh to a thicker one. It was easy to remove but you just need to take your time. Putting it back was slightly harder as you had to line all the holes up

Hey guys,
I just bought this last week and put it on the car on Friday. As someone who rarely opens the bonnet, I found it a bit difficult to install but the right tools certainly help! You will need small, angled screwdrivers to get the screws out as the radiator is close.
Anyway, what do you think?:thumbsup::thumbdwn:

don't be scared bro. it's easy to do. worst case is that you'll break all the clips (which i bet you wouldn't) and they sell for just around $3 each at the dealership.
here's a link to dmx's DIY grille replacement. => http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=86111&highlight=grille
he replaced his stock grille with FD2R grille but this DIY post shows in detail what you need to do to remove the stock grille. if you're successful in removing it, installing the mugen-style grille back on to the car should be easy by reversing teh removal steps that you made. i followed these DIY steps myself and found it to be easier than anticipated. hope this helps. if only you were nearby, i'll be glad to help you out.

Sorry it was done here in Hobart and they used a black semi gloss paint, I don't know what the colour code is. I took the grill out myself and installed it again which helps cut cost and is pretty easy to do

Paint it. It looks kinda funny IMO- a bit like a koala nose! I used to have an unpainted grille on my black civic (mind you the grille was silver).
On another note, you can get away with not painting the kit though as Tim's FD1 looks alright without painting it.
