I know fds arent the quickest in a straight line, but they corner decently enough to have fun on a track/skidpan setup.

sooooo

for the guys who do track,

post up rough set ups and lets see if we can encourage any more to get out there :)

btw lets cut the crap and by that i dont mean if you have a body kit of mad 48" deep dish pizza rims, etc. just want to know what you have that you recommend for track and why.

as far as format how about

if you have any more ideas then add them to the list

Mine.

model: fd1

transmission: manual

engine:

simota intake (in all honest i dont find much of a difference anywhere in the rev range and the only reason i still have it on the car is cause im too lazy to remove it and put on stock air box

engine oil: oem honda oil i find is more than enough for what i use my car for

tranny fluid: again like the engine oil, oem fluid is more than enough for what my car does

one thing that may be arguable is the gear knob, the stock fd gear knobs have a massive throw. atm just using a spoon knob and i find the throw has significantly reduced due to the shorter shifter length. being a lighter knob, it takes a while for you to get used to the feel but once you get used to it, the shorter throw does feel a lot better and less clunky.

suspension:

cheap bc coilovers- at the moment i have damper rates maxed out for any track use. camber to fronts is 0 degrees and rears are 2.5 degrees. i think this helps prevent me from having the ass end slide out violently during trail braking or lift off, might add some camber to the fronts to see if it eliminates a little of the understeer (any suggestions?)

cusco front strut- not really that much of a gain, in all honesty i believe my engine is doing a good enough job as a strut brace and due to the short length of our engine bays and the layout of a V shaped cusco strut, it doesnt really change handling characteristics that much. would however very much like to experiment with a rear strut (the one for your boot) and try stripping the interior for events as i keep the rear seats in to stabalise the back as i assume the seats themselves act as struts and lower body flex.

brake pads: currently using endless ccx, havent yet upgraded the rotors. for daily driving even on cold days as long as you apply a bit more pressure to the brakes, they are completely fine for daily driving. once you have warmed them up a bit on your warmup lap, the bit f*cking hard and are very good. I have yet to find any rotor wear and they have had a quite a few abusive track days

brake fluid : oem honda fluid again is good enough

tires: re001 - great for my application, however after a few track days the fronts have started wearing out at the shoulders, but handling is negligably affected and still grip well.

interior:

fire extinguisher - in wa cams requires a minimum of 1kg extinguisher for the event that i go to, afaik more serious events may require bigger or multiple. the bracket was fabricated by an engineering company and bolts onto the passenger seat rail so there is no drilling into floor pan etc etc involved, if you would like dimensions/pics send me a pm

Model:

FD1

Transmission:

Manual

Engine:

Injen CAI
Custom Catback Exhaust w/ x3 resonators (street spec yo!)

Suspension:

Lenso RE30's 17x7 w/ Kumho Ecstas KU31 225/45 all around
Pedders Sports Ryder Springs
Spoon EK9 Brake Pads

Interior:

Stock

Coming Soon:

D2 Coilovers (sitting at home awaiting to be put in)
Skunk 2 Rear Camber kit (same as above)

Trackdays:

Wakefield Park Raceway - 1:23:6990 (Stock w/ Dead tyres)
Wakefield Park Raceway - 1:21:0710 (Semi Wet)

Improvements

Injen CAI - Helps quite a bit on the track especially on the track where you're in the top end all the time.

EK9 pads: They're awesome in all honesty, they take awhile to warm up but when they do, they do their job well!

KU31 Tires: Cheap and awesome tires i must say. I'd recommend them if you can't afford the RE001's (or semis =])

FallenAngel
19-11-2008, 06:24 PM
WAaaaa the whole set... i wana get it!! but yet have the money >.<

ATM my fronts are +0.5 deg, and the rears are about -2.5deg. Have yet to get them aligned. Although my plans are to have the fronts either 0 or -1 deg camber and the rears at probably 1.8 deg.

rk 86 wa
19-11-2008, 08:29 PM
yah, i wouldnt mind boosting my fronts up to around neg 2-2.5 deg of camber and leaving backs at around 2 dont really want or know much about toe in or castor to comment.

aparty from the kumhos is anyone running semis? pros cons? afaik toyo r888 seem to be the go for lighter cars and entry level tracking from what i hear.

FallenAngel
19-11-2008, 10:10 PM
Awesome!! although i can't really make a comparison to anything else besides the stock tires as i haven't drive the fd with any other tires.

I wana try some semis soon, get some 15" and put them on the stocks

rk 86 wa
19-11-2008, 10:14 PM
ah is yours vtil or vti? i wouldnt put any tire for track on steelies cause of limitations of air flow over brakes and i guess eventual over heating

FallenAngel
19-11-2008, 10:27 PM
vti-l so alloys for me =]

So i'd say its not TOO bad but i'll see how it goes when i have the money that is =]

He is on these forms i think under lurkits02 or something, but his level of mods is significantly greater than mine, plus he is a good driver to boot :P

I think he got like ~1:10 up jacks hill?

In respect I got 1:14

Also the winner was the gunmetal evo 8 mr who got a 1:02

Doing my 2nd ever track day next week 4th August at Wakefield, did Marulan last month so I'm keen to see if I can keep with a mates sorted Mx5, anyway I'm not gunna make any predictions but I will be flogging the crap out of my 2mth old FD1 (12,000km).

3rd track day coming up at wakefield in October

model: 2011 White VTi

transmission: 5 spd Manual

engine: all 1800 cc, Shell 10w40 Synthetic, K&N airfilter, Dot5.1 brake fluid

suspension: Stock honda crap, just had a custom made 18mm Rear sway installed
Enkei RPo1 16x7 with Federa RSR 205/50/16, 2 deg Camber on the front

brakes: DBA 4000 slotted rotors, QFM A1RM track pads (DB1206)

Hoping for sub 1.20's but in reality I'll be learning the track so 1.22's would keep me happy.

Stevil who made your custom rear sway bar? Did they make the linkages too?

If it's quite a bit thicker than stock then you'll be best to invest in the linkages as a lot of people who upgrade their bars have the linkages tear off the subframe.

Stevil
28-07-2011, 07:55 PM
Duffy, Todd at Signature Sways (Nowra) knocked up and installed the rear 18mm sway bar, we did talk about the strength of it and he understood that it needs to handle up to a dozen track days over the next 3 years. I'd be interested in your thoughts, do I need to strength where linkages mount or just the linkages ? Cheers.

next stage of development will include Eibach springs and Koni Yellowtops

Upgrade your endlinks and you will require this reinforcement. whether it be custom made or purchased.

The weakpoint is where the endlink attaches to the chassis.

Be careful of getting stung with huge postage rates from Corsport. That's my experience.

Well completed my first track day at Wakefield, racechrono was playing up and I only got times from my last session of the day. Def had the slowest car but the FD1 sure does handle !! Youtube footage is from my 2nd last session with cooked brakes.

1.18.5 Wakefield Dry and 24C, Racechrono suggested my optimal was 1.16.5.

Wow so the fd does have potential

Stevil
10-08-2011, 05:54 PM
Hell Yeah !, the FD1 certainly does have some potential ! keep in mind the FD1 is a fairly light package, 85kg lighter than the 2L Sport.

Stock weight is 1180kg, throw on some lightweight forged alloy wheels & Rubber (I'm only guessing but maybe 20kg less than the original steel wheels), remove spare tyre and jack (15kg) and weight is probably around 1145 kg on the track. I'm planning on removing the rear seat and passenger seat for the next track day (maybe another 20kg ?) so down to 1125kg.

Slotted Rotors down the track should remove a little more weight. With Konis/Eibachs along with EBC/DBA slotted rotors I'll be aiming for 1.15s at Wakefield and 46s for Marulan. Probably dreaming but I need a target ! Haha

ekay1
10-08-2011, 06:16 PM
1.18.5 for a stock car is good imo! Yeah, slap on some decent size/weight wheels with some semis, coils, remove some weight and like a catback and intake should get you past 1.15 pretty easily at this rate. Always wanted to track the car but never had the funds lol

Stevil
28-09-2011, 07:45 AM
Still a stock motor/springs and shocks, these will get some attention over summer in prep for 2012.

Now sporting some DBA 4000 slotted rotor and A1RM track pads and some neg camber on the front, awesome combo ! ABS seems to have disaappeared ? and turning in is heaps inproved.

Feels good to support Aussie manufacturers ( Signature sways, DBA, QFM brake pads) Only a couple of week til Wakefiled, hoping to crack into the 1.16s, low 1.17s is probably reality.

Thanks Stevil!

13-10-2011, 07:02 PM
Well the FD1 had a session at Wakefield today and it looks like the brake rotor and pad upgrade paid off big time. Was only my 2nd time at the track and with some better lines I knocked 1.8 sec off my previous PB. Only did 5 session and knocked off early at 2.30pm but still managed to clock a 1.16.7 with an optimal time of 1.14.5 !!.

Bit suprised at how quick the FD1 can go with only 103kW's. I'll be moving the goal post a bit now as I reckon with a shock and spring change I reckon 13's are on the cards. haha better grab another beer !

ekay1
13-10-2011, 08:20 PM
Im impressed with the times! 1.14.5 is alot faster than what i thought it was capable of. Why not go coils instead of shock + spring combo? Any more plans for the future?

Stevil
13-10-2011, 08:41 PM
Ekay1 mods will pretty much leave the motor stock as this is a work car and there aint really much you can do with it !!. As i've only got the car for 3 years and I do alot of Kms with work I'm sort of concerned that coilovers might not last the distance and ride will be too harsh for the missus

Already thinking Eibach springs and Koni yellow tops will flatten things out and give alot more stability under brakes, cause at the moment the rear is swinging badly under brakes and on turn in. There will also be a little underbody bracing along with a better seat just for track only.

I did remove the front passenger seat and the rear seats today and It probably saved another another 15kgs. I reckon every bit helps.

Areis
13-10-2011, 08:45 PM
OMG! new goal: FD to the track!

Stevil
13-10-2011, 08:56 PM
Hell Yeah Areis ! Mate Wakefield is a load of fun and a safe track to boot. I'll probably give my car a breather til April next year but maybe an FD day at the track is on the cards ?

ekay1
14-10-2011, 12:40 AM
Fair enough Stevil. If you really want power and still keep it N/A ive been reading about the weapon R downpipe and intake manifold as well if your intersted in power :P Apparently its a decent gain.... but some people complain about the quality of the items above saying it cracks at the welds LOL.

Stevil
16-10-2011, 11:47 AM
Civic FD1 doing a 1.16.7 at Wakefield, rolling like a boat on big seas ! haha, pulled 149kmh down the main straight. Mate was following in his 700hp XR6T which had no trouble keeping up.

Snuck down to Wakefield on Tues this week as it was my last day of the holidays, anyway a set of Eibach springs was the only change since my last outing so I was really only expecting to bump my times down a small bit.

Day a started well and my first timed morning session produces a 1.16.1 which was 0.6 sec improvement. I was hoping to get into the 15s but a combination of hangover and the RS-Rs (3 track days & 25,000km) put paid to that. Still undecided as to whether get coilovers next (buddy club N+) or lower the gearing with a new MF final drive ??.
