Hi guys, driving (my 03 Euro Lux) home this evening I noticed my left headlight wasn't working. The little reflector lamp does but not the regular headlight. Sorry if I sound like a noob but my old car just had H4 and I assume these are different.

- the park light works
- the reflector lamp thingo works
- the regular headlamp beam does not
- the high beam works

Looking in from the front I cant see the filament broken. So my questions are:

Is it broken?
If so, how do I get a new globe that will match the (factory) one on the other side?
How much do they cost and from where?
Is it hard to replace them yourself?

Thanks heaps

Looks like your HID globe has blown. From Honda spares approx.$240 by memory. You may have a difference in colour between the new and old globe from what i've heard.Or you could go aftermarket and replace both. Not sure if they're easy to replace,i think they are.

It is the HID... lol... you have to live with it...

Try to search for a pair of D2S hid bulbs for replace. Do not just change 1 side as the color will be different.

But to replace the globes is quite complicated in your case if you do not know your car around...

My suggestion, but the bulbs and get it changed either @ dealer or car electricians..

I've changed headlights with old cars but not with the newer style globes. Can't believe a globe costs that much, also cant believe one blew so soon after i got it lol !

How did you see through the projector lens to see the broken element???

What is a reflector lamp?

^ i was going to ask the same question the projector hides the bulb.

Well I think I mean 'angel eyes' by the reflector lamp.

When you look in the front of the headlight from a 45% angle you can see the bulb projecting and the filament thingo isn't broken that I can see.

Euros don't come with angel eyes.

Right lol, another development, it appears the headlight I assumed was completely broken appears to be giving out light, just about 1/5 of what it should... is that how the globes go or is it something to do with the voltage regulator or whatever it is that feeds it power? Cheers

faulty ballast perhaps, maybe try swap the bulbs to the other side and see if it works properly?

Sorry what does ballast mean? To me that's the water in the bottom of a boat

If it's not the globe then it must be faulty igniter/ballast,same thing i think.

Cheers, but as I said before, is it possible for an HID to still give out any light if it's actually the globe that's gone? I ask since regular globes just go from full to nothing whereas this one's giving out some light.

I don't know as this is 1st.car i've owned with HIDs.Take it to Honda service or auto electrician and ask them to check it out/diagnose the problem, doesn't mean you have to get them to do it,once you know what needs to be replaced you can then get them to fix it or DIY.

OK no worries, was gonna get a service soon anyway so I'll prolly just get it done then.

Ballast/ignitor is basically what powers your hid bulb, which requires high voltage. If you follow the wires coming from the light bulb it will lead to the ballast, smallish metal box.

Anyways probably easiest to bring it to service like you said :)

Update: took this to the dealer and they said that the part of my headlight inside that holds the globes etc was broken and the bulb had jolted out, put it back in, cost $30 - mind you it could shake loose again and if I want to fix it a new headlight apparently costs $700+

Lol I can appreciate the cost effectiveness of your suggestion but with an OEM system I would only ever buy OSRAM/Phillips as replacements...

Also they are 8000K a very high colour temperature compared to the OEM 4100K in the '03-05 Luxury... If you need globes drop by your local Bursons/Autobarn/Repco they stock HID replacement bulbs (even Phillips, yes exactly the same as OEM) for a MUCH cheaper price usually... Last I heard they were $60-80 a bulb... I think that may be trade prices though...
