hi,
i have a 98' ek cxi civic...and im new to the world of hondas and vtecs
i was wondering what engine would fit best from the b18c2 and the k20A
What the prices would be for the engine alone (i rang up jdm yard and there was a variation of up to 2gz for each engine depending on brand of parts...what would these be and are they a must??) and installation...and what extra parts need to be upgraded for it to be legal (brakes etc)..
i would also like to know where i could go for a real good quality and fairly reasonably priced mechanic to install the engine...
im situated in west ryde, sydney
thanks
peace ryan

For a complete K20a swap you'd be looking at $15,000 or more. Ive looked into it myself but opted for the B series swap as it suited my budget.
Whats your total budget for everything?

im confused, so ur budget is 6.5k? or there is no budget?
in order to narrow down ur options you have to determine how much you want to spend. if money is no concern, if i were you id be looking into K-swap k20 or k24, in addition to the k swap cost, theres costs of upgrading brakes, engineering.
otherwise, look into b series or h-series. which is more closer to the 6.5k budget.
p.s. try using the search above, to look up other peoples thread on this topic, as its been covered too many times.

Go for the K Series swap if money isnt an issue, results will be much more rewarding.

If money ain't an issue K-swap. Like everyone has said, it all depends on your budget.

Go to that little yellow word up along the nav bar that reads Search...
Type "ek conversion" and see what you get :)

budget aint a thing....J swap it!
"DrHonda" does the K20/K24 engines, too.
> there was a variation of up to 2gz
Ahh, there's many variations even within the engine families.
For example, in the K20 series:
The K24 block has the extra capacity, but
The K20 type heads flow better.
A hybrid is big bucks.
Same with gear boxes: Type R boxes have better ratios and an LSD, but cost $$$$$.
Same sort of options are available with the Bseries.
B18C from a type R is the pick, but very $$$$$ due to limited supply and high demand.
A B20, from a CR-V, with a non-LSD gearbox might be the cheapest option.
> i dont wanna be spending more than 6 n a half grand on the engine.
That rules out the K20 conversions.
A B16 half cut is still gonna be 2-3K.
WIll you be content with 20kW extra?
Nick.

$2-3k for 20kw at the engine more
$5-6k for 40kw at the engine more
$12-18k for 60kw+ at the engine more.
Do the math lol

the extra 20kw feels like alot compared to a D series, and if you get bored you could always boost it

i would go a b18cR if you looking around the 6k budget, k series would be more powerful but as mention can be quite a bit more expensive.

Its not only the peak power thats increased, the torque is too... and thats what gives the car the feeling that its going quicker :p
All in all, its expensive for relatively tame gains.

LOL..so hrmmm.. if he gets $2-3k for 20kw more...
he can buy 3 times that for $6-9k and get the same 60kw
