We all learn something new every day. For those of you that have followed my previous posts on fuel consumption you will know that i keep a spreadsheet on all fuel used and therefore can give exact consumption figures. Several weeks ago i had to replace tyres @ 53181kms which i considered good milage from a FWD vehicle. I therefore decided to replace them with the same brand (Michelin Pilot Preceda - 205/55x16). The new updated Michelin has a slightly more open & aggressive tread pattern. I immediately noticed a very slight increase in Fuel consumption, but wanted to do some calculations after several weeks to gain accurate figures. My findings are as follows:-

From 20,145kms to 53,179kms I used 2133.52 liters @ an average of 6.458l/100
From 53,179kms to 58,475kms I used 365.34 liters @ an average of 6.9 l/100

While this is still excellent economy, It shows different tyre compounds/tread patterns can have a slight effect on fuel consumption. Note that this comparison is done with exactly the same driving conditions and on the same roads, so it is a fair and exact comparison. I

I am not complaining at all, I was just unaware that tyres could make a difference to economy.

Still jealous of your fuel economy. I pretty much do 10L/100km as I fill up 40 litres for having done around 400km.

Higher temperature in the last several weeks could also play a role in the risen fuel consumption. By the way hope you recovered quick smart after that accident you shared with us a while ago. I take it that you decided on keeping the civic after it got pushed back against the gearing.

Such is life for city drivers Mark.....lol....My spreadsheet shows no such effect in previous summers.

As for recovery proccess....still goin to physio twice a week, prescription dope is on the daily menu, going to see a specialist in Bris next month.

I did keep it even though i was offered an unbelievable deal at the time on a new euro, but the mrs wouldn't play ball. Have done an additional 18,000km since the incident & no probs with the Auto. I talked a relative into buying a new CU2 euro and he gave it to me for a week to do an economy run, hard to be specific over 1 tank but result was 7.3/100

as far as i know, i watched from current affair before
they said if you drive your car with flat tyres or low air tyre pressure
increase fuel consumption.. simple as that,

i have increased from 34 to 36 psi to see if it helped......low tyre pressure is not a possibility

kmon seriously, your using 1/2 litre more fuel consumption

Have you seen the price of petrol lately, it's probably saving you 50c.
