man thats the problem with those is that it sucks hot air from engine bay as well as its kinda illegal cause it needs heat deflector on it

I'll stick my question here as it has to do with modding the intake on newer cars:

For you guys out there with FDs with warranties still attached who have also either a CAI or SRI, do you still take your cars to honda for servicing?

I've got my 20k service coming up in december, and am a little worried that they'll take note of the SRI, and bring it up if I *ever* have any engine issues. Obviously if I had engine issues I'd re-install the OEM air box, but wondering if they'll keep a record of the car having had a modded intake at some point. I don't think the air filter is due to be changed according to the user manual/guide, but would they clean and re-oil the air filter on my SRI if it was dirty/due/if i asked for it?

Im always scared of hydrolocking. but looking at your install, the filter sits pretty high off the ground. I dont think in the 2 years ive driven over water higher than 15cm. I might go the alternative and keep stock airbox but remove resonator and put a big mouth. But then again, the CAI kinda looks sexy.

yep ive read lots of stuff on hydrolocking but i think in my 7 years of driving ive only had to drive through a big puddle like that once i think. But im heaps happy with the cai, love the sound and can feel the power difference. Unless thats just the noise of the CAI throwing me off :D

im pretty sure theres a difference. Just like when i drive on a cold night, the car is willing to rev. Not sure if i will get the same sound if i do a "custom CAI". Want to keep engine looking stock but sexy below the airbox

sweet. And no probs water splashing into the mouth? Im guessing the splash would evaporate by the time it reaches the air filter.

Did you have to cut out the resonator?
Whats the sound like?
Any improvements?

Now im tempted to get this custom intake

any low end loss? 0-2800 RPM?
Did u just unplug resonator or cut it out?

ej20i

just bolt it off...low end stays the same since im still using a panel filter...im pretty sure it will be better later when i replace it with the mugen filter

yep you need to remove the front bumped to get the stock airbox out. There is a couple hidden screws here and there for the resonator.

love the DIY ej20i.... gotta hear it :D

Any thoughts on the HKS Racing Suction Kit being used on the FD1 compared to say, a K&N Typhoon? I'm currently in Singapore and there's a lot of different brands of CAI/SRI to install. Not much choice of aero parts beyond what is already available on eBay; admittedly the prices are considerably less. Painting and fit is also usually included too!

I service mine at Rick Damelian. They put a comment on the service record that a non-standard air filter is installed but that's about it. For my case though it blocks access to the auto so they are less likely to check the transmission.

i dun think the gruppem intake for FD2r fits the audm fd2 with k20z2... coz of the difference in intake manifold and the position of the throttle body. some modification mite be needed... not 100% sure, is there any test result with our FD2? wanna get a SRI but the only thing i could find is by simota...

markCivicVti has a TopFuel zero-1000 SRI.. but thats on his fd1

would it be different for the k20z? cause r18a engages vtec as low as 1000rpm..

i'd also be keen to know this, being a new fd2 owner and wouldn't mind doing a few little mods to mine if possible.
like i said in another post, im surprised there isn't much info about these vehicles, as I'm sure there is some performance hidden under all this fuel economy i-vtec crap that they try to sell it as.

Ask, and you'll find out how much you warranty you have voided. Otherwise you'll just find out when you try to claim warranty.
