View Full Version : [cu2] HIDS for standard model

Hey ppl,
A few members on here have purchased the base model CU2.
And I know that some of us are looking at HIDs for the base model.
So, just out of curiosity. I thought about asking a few dealers on how much it would cost to fit OEM HIDs to the CU2...
This is what i got back ... and it doesnt look good ....
With regard to your query, I have spoken with my service department and Honda and they tell me that unfortunately it is not an option on a standard Euro to fit HID lights.
This is most likely because of the need to change wiring harnesses which are integrated in the vehicle already.
All vehicles with HID lights have them put in at the point of vehicle production and not as a retrofit option
Sorry we could not help on this occasion but please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any other queries or questions and hopefully we will be able to assist you on another occasion
Another dealer suggested this...
The HID headlight parts for the headlights only plus the igniters and the control units come to 3827.40 including GST without any labour etc.
The engine bay wiring harness is different also which is $1758.90 on its own plus all the other things that make the HID work, it quickly outstrips the difference that the luxury and luxury nav models are from the base.
It makes the luxury models quite good value.
It’s not until you look at trying to put the extras on the base model that you find these things out.
I have done this exercise a few times on the previous shape.
hows about them apples?:(

So in my opinion instead of fishing out a HIDS and then fooling around to install them.
I might just get some Xenon globes at 5000k.
They might just do the job.
Anyone else got any ideas?

F*** that, just put in aftermarket HID's and save yourself a shitload.
A top of the line phillips kit costs way less that a grand.

Hey
I am just curious, and I know this may have been discussed elsewhere....
Are d2s and h1 two different types of bulbs?
And which one should i get from my standard euro. In the book it says H1, but im sure that the luxury models have the d2s fittings which result from a totally different light housing. So a d2s HID globe will not work with my H1 bulb housing?
So if i get h1 bulbs will it still be ok, considering that the bulbs are not made from the projector style headlights on the euro?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I know little about it but putting HIDs in sounds extremely hard, might just have to go for some super white regulars? Saves you money when they break, i gotta fork out for a new HID, not fun.

Id just get a half decent kit and be done with it, not some $80 ebay job.....

I was looking at some xenon globes about 4700k today, and they were kinda pricey. When I could just pay another 100 and get decent HIDS.
So HIDS it is!
Any suggestions of good H1's?
eBay kits arent all that bad .... just not those cheap china ones .... on the topic of cheap china ones ... anyone actually bought these and gave them a go?!?!?!

Be very carefull putting hids in a non stock hid vehicle.
It is illegal and may cause claim issues if involved in an accident.
Factory fitted hids come with self levelling to not blind oncoming traffic due to extra load from extra occupants in your car.
Also factory fitted washers are needed to keep the lenses clean so there is no distorted light.
For it to be legal, it all needs to be set up and engineered to comply with the australian design rules.

yea? im just not sure how a kit will go with the adjusting light level. Will it still work? well i guess we'll have to wait and see ...
im thinkin goin HIDs too, givin it a go, something not to expensive, that if it goes wrong its not a biggie ...
if it works it works .. if it doesnt well then... halogen bulbs are always the option ...

No, it won't adjust it automatically. BUT........ you got CL9 of CU2?
CU2 we can manually adjust height from in the cab!

Yeah, 6000k is what I'd go too.
Im thinking about a 50w kit for the high beams, I do a bit of travelling at night.
Either that or some spotties. Id go HID over spotties though.
I live in country WA, so I don't really come across other cars at night.

50W high beams .. thats gonna be hella bright ...
just hope it doesnt overheat your light housing....
then you would have some problems ..

If you wanna get the best result from this Halogen to HID conversion, you should do a retrofit. Have a read of this thread - http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=88375&highlight=retrofit (see page 3, read what Sp00ny said) and then check out http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=88696&highlight=retrofit for pics of the end result
You can also do a search for "retrofit" in the Noob forum, there are lots more threads about it.

I had Osram +50's in my CL9, they were good.
That's what I have too and they are BRIGHT (if you're more interested in brightness i.e. Lumen than the colour i.e. Kelvin).
The Narva catalogue shows that Plus 50s output about 1800-1900 Lumens (colour temp is 3500K) but it looks like Narva has recently released Blue Power and these ones output 2000 Lumens (the colour temp is 3750K). You can check this out on pages 23 and 24 of the catalogue at http://media.narva.com.au/books/4.pdf

Cheers. They do look good. I think I seen them at repco the other day for like $60 and was interested.
I need replacements for my Prado more than anything, it would happen to have the shittest stock headlights going around.....
The output is good for these globes.... HID ~ 3000 lumens.

Hey hey! I got Narva blue power H4's for the prado, they are 100% improvement.
I couldn't find HB3 high beams for the euro though, only H1. The bloke went through the catalogue and said they only make the +50's in the HB3. I didn't get any for the euro.

Nice! yeah, I reckon the improvement would be huge, especially compared to the stock Prado bulbs.
I'm just about to call Repco to order a set of blue power as well for my Euro. Last night, the +50 in the right headlight blew.
+50s are really good too, so if you replace the stock high beam bulbs on your Euro with them, the difference should be noticeable.

I was happy, the H4's cost me $56 or there abouts.

I am looking at going the opposite direction. I intend trying to find someone to fabricate a Nudge Bar for my CU2, then mount some Lightforce spotties. I know they are good for 500meters of excellent light on a country road as i had them on my Civic

I been thinking about those little spottie mounts that go behind the number plate.
Good for mounting spotties, but not for roo's though.

I had the Number Plate Light Bar on my Civic & it served the purpose well, however the Euro has no metal support behind the Number Plate to secure the Light Bar. However, unlike the Civic it has provision underneath to attach supports that a Nudge Bar could be mounted to. Next step is to Try and find a company who will do a 1 off Fabrication.
Unless you go the full Bull Bar route, nothing will help against roos. I just hope my luck holds and i see them in time.

"The engine bay wiring harness is different also which is $1758.90"
Are the wires made of solid gold, with 50 carat diamond connectors? lol
Simply buy an aftermarket kit for ~$500

eBay kits arent all that bad .... just not those cheap china ones .... on the topic of cheap china ones ... anyone actually bought these and gave them a go?!?!?!
They ARE bad! Steer RIGHT AWAY from them! Got a kit off eBay for ~$130. Specified EXACTLY what I wanted and still they sent me the wrong thing... TWICE!? To make it worse, I had to fork out for the return shipping... TWICE.
When I finally got the right thing it didn't work!? Tried to get a refund through PayPal but the return period had expired.
In short: DON'T GET CHEAP CHINA HIDS FROM EBAY!!!

Navara make a 100W HB3 Bulb which will be a direct replacement for High Beam on the CU2. I ordered 2 yesterday, so will let you know the results when i fit them.

I fitted some 100W HB3 high beam bulbs yesterday. They are definitely an improvement, but not as much as i was hoping.

Basically I am just looking for the best lighting possible. Like you I drive 50km every week night on roo infested roads. I do have a pair of Lightforce spotlighs, but need to find someone who can or is willing to fabricate a Nudge Bar for me. Until that time i just want the best possible.
