Hey I have been tossing up for ages and i have finally decided I dont need the power of turbo or supercharger ;P So I just wanted to see peoples opinions on Upgrades to my Naturally Aspirated B16A DOHC VTEC 96 Honda Civic EK1 Hatch. I just want pretty much anything that will make it run better/faster without going turbo or supercharger =)
Thx

Have a look at these threads

http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19495 (excellent thread)
You've got $8000 so you're off to a good start. Im assuming you already have I/H/E right? ITR gearbox with 4.7 or higher final drive, LSD and flywheel is a great start. Also Toda Au has a MFactory gear set for the B16a gearbox which i have been told is an excellent bang for your buck upgrade.
DO NOT over look your brakes and suspension mods aswell. Its all well and good to go fast, but if you cant stop and cant turn there is no point in having that extra power. Choose your mods so they all work well together for a total balance.

If you are after good street performance then start off with your basics such as I/H/E. But any good street performance car will have there brakes and suspension upgraded too.
For Honda motors nothing is cheap which is the sad truth. If you buy cheap you will be wasting your money on products that wont give you results. Eventually you'll have to pay more money to replace the cheap stuff you bought. Buy quality parts and do it right the first time, it will save you heaps of $$$$ in the long run.
Good Luck

Just do a B20vtec, you'll make more torque and power than a b18c7

Just depend on what you want done on the b20. It can be very basic to all out. Like i said, if your actually serious about doing it swing us a pm and i'd be able to quote you on some setups.

but will $8k fit the budget for a b20? since its over the displacement limit of 15%(if ur in syd), it will need to be engineered, so more costs, + costs on brake upgrade.

They are good points that can easily be forgotten...
That is if you wanna do your swap and have it "legal".

8k for a B20 is plenty. You will definately make more power than a b18cR with a B20.
Engineering is roughly 500-600bucks to make all mods on the car legal
Brake upgrade is not required. Make sure you got good pads

Nitrous is great bang for buck but for a road car its pointless unless you will be drag racing it. And I am a big believer in nitrous. :)

yes i am in nsw, but i wont be going down that path for a while ... need the money atm and prob wanna build it for track first haha
lol barefoot what if we're in sydney and we want you to do the engine package??
IMO: if u allready have a B16 swap.. then you dont need the whole $6k B18C-R package.
you only need:
- Long-Block (head and block) including cams and belts etc.
- Type R final Drive / or aftermarket (Mfactory etc)
retain YOUR EXISTING:
- Intake manifold (difference between type R and B16A(2) is negligable)
- Engine mounts
- Wiring harness
- Axles
- Linkages
- Ancillaries (power steering, starter motor, alternator, water pump etc)
- Gearbox (B16A(2) ratios are the same as type R minus the Final Drive..
- ECU - you can run the B16 ECU with a piggyback or have it chipped FOR hONDATA.
this way you only need to spend between 2-4k on sourcing the Type R long-block and you can also sell your B16 Longblock for 500-1,000 depending on condition etc.
You can also take your B16 Head (and bits) and combine them with B20 block as others have mentioned but this does sacrifice reliability to a point and wont necessarilly rev as high as the type R (safely and reliably).
basically you can do a LOT with $8k if you're capable and prepared to do some of the running around and labour yourself.
