hey la,

finally back in sydney after a long 4 months working on Tarong powerstation controls upgrade.

What shall i do, im thinkin of getting a new car: (a small one)

- keep the ek civic cxi slow box and keep ricing the exterior (and waste money)

- get a used ek with vtec with less than 50,000kms (is that still possible)
- c2 vts for ueber smallness and saving fuel consumption (no spare parts cause its euro?)
- jazz vti-s 09 (looks nice but $$ and slow too?)
- ford xr4 (no clutch footrest, wtf)
- clio 182 cup (no spare parts cause its euro?)
- mazda 2 cause its small
- polo gti (no spare parts cause its euro?)
- colt ralliart (cause its a stock turbo)

suggestions would be nice XD. My intention is to avoid the "rice" in the next car.

What is your budget?

AutoNoob

Colt ralliart is probably most expensive one there so if i can find it cheaper,
MAX $20,000 but less than $15,000 is prefered.

c2 vts NO NO NO and NO.

stay away from citroens.
in fact stay away from euro's unless you get a merc or bmw. but theyre still abit bad.

that thing is gutless, you can get better fuel from a hyundai, and problematics.

not sure about c2's, but citroens oh god. spare parts is $$$$, you probably have to go back to tarong where ever that is and earn more dosh to pay the thing off.

stay jap.
clio NOOOOOOOOOOOOO why must you even put euros on that list.
renaults only got reputation cause of their f1 team. theyre cars are NOTHING LIKE ITTT AHHHH.
seriously. dont touch euros. youll regret it.
ahem ill just give you a rough figure of what youre looking at if youre genuine headunit fails. if your clio came with the in built stacker youre looking at $1500 for the head unit alone. =] gg.

DO NOT TOUCH EUROS.
their parts are not manufactured in australia, therefore are imported.
there is NO advantage watsoever on this.
theres a chance itll get damaged during transit.
theres a chance they send you a left hand part.
its a 2 week turn around on back ordered parts.
and if its 200euros its 500 aussie.

ford = Driver returns on foot (ford backwards)

my suggestion?
theres a 2003 accord euro LUXURY manual on carsales dealer search used (obviously) for 14 990.
and the next one down is 16grand ish.

you want a euro car? get an accord 'euro' lol. trust me youll be way more satisfied than euro thrash.
no offence to euro lovers, but theyre crap.
euro cars are good in europe.
theyre not designed for our roads nor weather.

go look at some corollas, or aurions, theyre in your price range.

if you still get a euro car after me writing all this. ill probably see your car in the dealer i work in not too long from the date you bought it. oh .. on a tow truck

have fun =]

European cars are decent.

I know someone who drives a Clio sport, and absolutely loves it to death. never had any issues at all.

Infact, they never modified it. And still enjoyed it.

Some options to consider:
- Now i know this is a Honda Forum but lately i was helping a mate look for a R33 GTS25T
its nice car, pretty fast but yeah
- I dont like Mitsu but thats me, otherwise GTO??? Kinda rare
- Sportivo Rolla!!! Outta ur price range a bit but yeah
- I Love the eg+b18 idea !!!!!!!
- Prelude integra and pretty much what everyone else said...
- mr2 love em but i cant drive turbo or s/c :(
U can get
- 1st gen + 20valve = screamer! (make sure u get post 86)
- 2nd gen turbo = COOL
- 3rd gen...apparently they handle well and are convertable...
- crx (i wanted one and was gonna get one but my dad said 2 seats = dream on :( )

Hope i gave u some food for thought dude...

mmm, how hard is it to install an engine? not for noobs eh...
this wud be way cheaper than a new car i would think.
Do any good places in sydney install engines, whats the most common one, B16A?.

It might be a fun DIY to learn how to install it myself but the chances of screwing up are high and plus i would still need another car to get to work :(

in terms of installation for noobs, how long wud this take? 2 months?
- need like lots of tools, small n big
- connecting plugs up
- ECU stuff, is that required.

would the cost of time and tools and the engine and spare parts be the same as getting an installer to do it. Or would it be cheaper to just buy a used VTi-R.

how about:
Swift Sport 2005 model, its like $18k. has a high rev range which might be fun, but this car aint very fast tho.
Rolla sportivo is a bit $$, about $20k.

well what about jap cars? their imported, and im pretty sure their parts are aswell mate... euro cars have certain appeals and some do have clear advantages over other cars... i know someone that has ownd a saab for a while and i can tell you that car has not broken down, is easy to maintain (he changes the oil and blah himself)..

if you want something built for aussie roads just go for an aussie car... but i suggest you save up and think about your priorities first...
what type of car do you want? gonna add alot of modifications? or leave it stock? FWD or RWD?
simple run around? fuel efficient? small? large? cruising car? track car?
something with a little kick and you can just leave it stock?
luxuries? do you want a new car or a used one? recent model or older model?

if your thinking of modifying a car.. id say stay with your car and just change the engine to a b16...
there are plenty of other options... under 15000
lexus is200, mr2, prelude, older accord euros, saab 9-3... plus the other ones people have mentiond etc etc

yeh theyre alright.
and ill agree with you, they are decent.
its not worth the money. service is too expensive.
and as for that someone you know, he obviously took care of it.

lol you know alfa romeos motto? "Buy with passion"
doesnt apply to all euros.

but at the end of the day. thats one car you mentioned. and there is a gazillion jap cars that have excellent reputation for reliability.
my point of view is from the cars i work on and a typical observation.
price, quality, reliability, performance within its category, and parts (and its price)

well what about jap cars? their imported, and im pretty sure their parts are aswell mate... euro cars have certain appeals and some do have clear advantages over other cars... i know someone that has ownd a saab for a while and i can tell you that car has not broken down, is easy to maintain (he changes the oil and blah himself)..

saab ay?
he ever check the firewall near the brake booster?
=] firewall bends and cracks.
oh and, power steering hose. =]
unless its one of the more recent models then i derno.

and with jap, yeh its the same story i never said it was different. but the currency difference is a big difference.

but one point i want you to keep in mind is about the left handed parts. youd be amazed how many times its happened.
again, not saying it always happens. but it has.

i was only stating my point of view, and i said no offence in the end. so im sorry if i did offend.
but from my experience, jap>euro any day.
