View Full Version : dc5r 5th gear problem and possibly 3rd

hey guys. abt 2 weeks ago i was driving to the shops when i noticed everytime i took it out of 3rd and putting it into 4th. the gear stick would rattle and shacking (felt like it was clicking)coming out of 3rd. then abt 200m down the road it wouldnt let me into 5th. did this for a while. i pulled over. pumped the clutch a bit then tried again and it let me in. kept doing that on and off for abit for the next ten min then stopped.

and today heading home from the shops it started again. it wouldnt let me in 5th period.. stopped at a mates house. stayed there for abt 30min then left and was still doing it. it felt like it would go in 1/4 of the way then hit a hard rubber wall. then as i was pulling into my street it let me in 5th but not 4th.

this is the last thing i need before xmas and all that,really kinda stressing and pissed off over it...has anyone experienced this or know whats going on. is it my clutch, gearbox. or synchros. any and all advice is greatly appreciated

I remember reading about how this was a common problem for DC5R's (another problem was it would pop out of gear if you didn't hold the stick in gear).

I believe the fix is a couple of bushings or something like that, do a search on here for DC5R gearbox problems or google.

nah it doesnt pop out. i did a search and all that came up was 2nd gear grinding problems.

Have you bled your clutch fluid yet?

Sometimes it can be a simple problem like gearbox fluid because the gearbox does not have a filter often sometimes things may get nifty inside. whens the last change? Check under the gearbox for any leaks.

Try changing the gearbox fluid and like aron said the clutch slave cylinder. These simple solutions could work a treat and be the answer.

i chanhged the gearbox fluid and 15.000 ago. yeh i was about to have it bled. thanks for all the help. cheers.

maybe try research into gear synchros?
