i think anything other than a steelie bonnet will be illegal as the structural surrounds won't be as safe upon impact.

^i second that.

I read somewhere on forum that carbon fibre bonets are not legal due to collision, particularly with padestrians. Search up bullet proof hood, i think it could be in that thread when somewhere installed a bullet proof hood lol

Bullet proof? Really. Maybe from a pistol but it takes a lot to stop a bullet from a centrefire rifle. A 7.62 x 51 round will go through 6mm steel plate.

bullet proof material (ballistic vests etc) stop a rifle round by entangling the round in its fibres (kevla or PE)... not by stopping it dead in its tracks... pistol rounds are actually usually stopped by a ceramic insert or baffle plate..

The other way around: Fibres do pistol rounds and ceramics/hard backing do a very very limited number of rifle rounds and even then in most instances, only one hit as the ceramics shatter. However, if the round contains a steel core, such as that used in most military rounds, give up all hope of not being penetrated.

Military rounds are, by international convention, designed to penetrate and go through a human target whereas hunting rounds are soft and deformable lead-core FMJ bullets. So why do soldiers wear body armour? Well, apparently, most injuries are from flying fragments and for this, body armour works reasonably well.

BTW, Australia is one of the very few countries where private citizens are not permitted to own or use body armour. Unless you're a criminal; then you can do what you please.

lol you seem to know alot about body armour... lol and yes body armour is an offensive weapon in aussie.. f*ck knows why!?!? lol

in most US states its actually illegal for a convicted crim to wear body armour... or for someone to wear body armour while commiting a crime lol

Level III ballistic vest will protect against NATO rounds (7.62x51) at 847m/s...
eg: AK47 automatic assault rifle...

so theyll easily hold up against something like the austyer (5.56)... unless you get two rounds on the same spot lol

you'll get maximum of 44mm (US standard) of blunt trauma tho, ie: a massive ass bruise and possible broken bones underneath lol
