Only thing is how long they last depending on the compound.
quality of the rubber --> if you get cheap and nasty then it can cause it to rip chunks out
performance difference between tyres.

Tyres are a hard thing to decide on, took me ages but i ended up getting a set of Toyo T1R and compared to the Dunlop SP Sport maxx (german ones) they are alot stickier cause the rubber is softer.

If your in Sydney. Try TalebTyres for a set of Toyo T1R in 215/45/17. They might have them in stock.

please steer clear of the khumo ecstas, i had them on my ek and they had next to no grip in the wet, real skatey i hated them. I was lookin at the toyos but went with falken 452's there a bit more expensive but they stick like glue in the wet and dry, cheap tires = understeer that is all

Get a set of 22" Bridgestones. They go for your price range.

Second that same with the older falken ziex and nankang ns-II

lol.

What the guys are trying to say is that you drive a performance car then get tyres to match. "Cheap Tyres" are just that

As suggested, either contact Blairs Tyres in Lansvale or Bob Jane Hornsby (speak to Simon and tell him he was recommended by OzHonda and some other car clubs.. he loves it :p)

with either shop generally if you get 4 tyres they'll discount it on top of nrma membership discount

honestly this is a pretty silly question.

do you think that more expensive tyres are more expensive for no reason?

you drive a performance car. dont skimp on your safety, the safety of your passengers, and the safety of your car by buying cheap tyres.

i am not sure how much for 215/45/17 but for 225/40/18 i got them 250 each.
So might be 200 each, damn out of your price range.

and as Mr Willz said, tyres make the biggest difference in supporting stopping power for your car, you'll notice the difference in the wet when you thrash your car with cheap tyres they only play a rolling surface whereas high quality tyres would grip still.

would you knowingly let a surgeon someone operate on you with a steak knife, some scissors and a rubber mallet?

i doubt it.

driving on cheap tyres is like going and purposely jumping off a bridge

true, but it depends on the cars intended purpose, he may not give two hoots about pushing the limits

got nothing to do with pushing limits

does he drive in the wet? does he like to stay on the road and not aqua plane? does he like to stop safetly and not slide along the road?

that alone is a reason to not buy half of the tyres on the market

its not just pushing it in the dry that counts

i used to use cheapo 80 dollar specials.

not anymore, ive crashed a car due to them

I would probably agree with you but being in a 50km/h accident myself that demolished my car (fibreglass bodykit at front and not at fault lol).. i realise i could've just avoided the 7month issue with the other parties insurance company if i had spent an extra $30 per tyre at the fronts instead of driving on 205/40/17 kuhmo ecstas... and i'm pretty sure those tyres i have at the front are the same ones the OP are getting

circumstances were simple.. i had no time to brake and avoid a sleepy nurse driver:

lol that car is still faster then my built B16...

but in all seriousness to get into the technicalities Brakes/Sussy/Tyres should generally be matched... DC5 brakes are pretty meaty and the sussy fairly rigid.. shit tyres will be the weakest link and lose traction PERIOD!

^ agreed to above, all suspension and drive combo needs relatively suit.

As long as the original poster doesn't go like Antyre or Nankangs or sh*t like that he should be fine.

Preferably go for something more common and known.

I agree with all the above but there are more variables than tyres and car setup. Some sealed roads for example differ unbelievably in traction offered, however this goes unnoticed the majority of drivers. I drive a few vehicles with tyres from cheap to very expensive and when there's no grip, there's just no grip.

Getting way off topic guys...

still off topic, but it amzes me the people who upgrade brakes, but leave shitty tyres

i mean, theres no point having 400mm rotors with 12 pistons if you dont have the tyres to back em up

I prefer QUIET running tyres. Any recommendations for a quiet tyre? As in minimal road roar.
