my carby civic idle normally (< 1k) at night when its cold.. thats when the headlight is on.. if its not on.. its at 1k (why?). But during the day, its usually slightly above 1k..

its pretty darn hot today here in melbourne.. and my idling goes haywire.. idling as high as 2k. anyone knows the reason why this is so? btw, the idlin is higher when the aircon is on sometime.

I live in Port Hedland W.A. and we get nearly 50deg days. My old Mitsubishi colt used to run really temperamental. I think it is to do with the density of the air. The cooler it is (night time) it runs sweet, and has as much power as a colt could have. During the day when it is nice and hot, it would run like a bag of crap. We could have great variation in temp here say 10deg at night and 45 ~ 50deg during the day.

its not normal dude,

with aircon off revs should be about 750 to 800 rpm,
EACV on dual carb modles compensates for aircon and other loads, on mono carb there is a vacuum valve that opens and lifts the revs up, this is adjustable. sounds like typical EACV problems, are the revs hunting at all ?

yeah, check all you vacuum lines too while you are at it. I replaced mine on the colt and picked up heaps of lost HP. FYI the vacuum lines advance the timing if you wondered what they are for.

the revs will just sit at around 1.8k rpm at times... jump down to about 1k then up to 1.8k again... this will happen whenever my car isnt moving.. where can i locate the vacuum valve? and how can i adjust it?

is IACV solely found in EFI engine only ?

nope, carby Hondas have an ECU, O2 sensor, EACV.
