Will a 98 spec b18cr ecu plug into and run a b16a. this is just temporary to get a car home no thrashing just easy driving has to travel about 100km.

98 spec ecu is obd2a, so only the ek4 b16a will fit that ecu

it is a transplant and I only have a photo is there any way to tell the difference between a b16a and a b16a2 aside from engine number

if its an AUDM ECU it will have an immobilizer and wont start the engine.

the immo needs to be bypassed. JDM ECU will be fine

Its a jdm ecu so does that still leave the prob of what sort of b16a it is

u will need a conversion harness to fit that ecu to the car.
(OBD1 to OBD2A)

but i think you still can drive the car with the Si ecu,
might be a bit rough but its only 100km, should be ok

anyone else can confirm?

if you drive it safely the Si ECU will run the engine, dont go for power, if it pings back off.

you can have VTEC added to your Si ecu and a socket, then the SI ecu will run the B16A quite happily with a B16A2 chip

Thanks for the adivice guys, much apreciated. I have found a honda wrecker that is willing to lend a single OHC VTEC ecu for the day to get the car home.
