Hi all,

My misses 97 CXI auto has only done about 58000k's, and trans has been serviced regularly, at least every 12mths, regardless of k's so lack of servicing is not a problem.

Now we are in between main cars I'm driving this a fair bit more but not sure if the trans needs a bit of a look. What it seems to be doing is now and again it seems to take an extra long time to change up or down, then is a bit hard shifting (not often mind you) and now and again it seems to flare a bit changing from 1st to 2nd.

The fluid is nice and red, clean and doesn't smell (other than smelling like trans fluid).

I was told at one stage a few years ago these are a 'dumb' transmission and don't/can't really get 'serviced/adjusted' other than a drain and refil. Is this the case, and if they are that 'dumb', what could be causing the problem?

Will I bother booking it into a trans specialist if they will only drain and fill it - I could do that myself. If the fluid is good, I can't see that being an issue. The only thing I will add is it does sit for long periods without use.

Oh, and do these need the pan dropped, filters and gaskets replaced etc or is it just undo drain plug, drain, do up, refil from a fill hole, done? (Yes, I'll have to do a search to find this info I guess).

Thanks for any help.

Edit: oh, auto trans lol. I should read properly

Check that the fluid is not overfilled or underfilled

Thanks mate.

The level seems alright. I did check that as it seems to be more obvious when cold which I always thought can be low trans fluid.

have you used genuine honda ATF for every service ?

also the Throttle cable that goes to the trans may need adjusting.

Honda AT only need to be services every 40 000kms, or 20 000kms if you paranoid. not yearly unless you clock those K's
