View Full Version : Rattle problems in engine bay? any help?
yesterday was rippin the car, engine all warm normal,
as i dumpted it into two from four on straight rd.. felt like i was in neutral instead of two and it didnt go anywhere but reved..
after that car started having rattling noises from engine bay,
what's the problem?
i sence rattling sounds from my engine ( sounds bad ) , while driving at about 3000rpm-4000rpm.. also while changing gears even when im parked & just reving from the throttle cable, it rattles...
car's still drivable just doesnt sound too good..
im assuming its nothing to do with clutch , because it seems fine no slips..
could it be gearbox? ...
any idea's let me know thanks in advance!
Much Appreiciated,

gearbox?
if you went fromt 4th to 2nd, and then it was just free revving, you may have fcuekd something int eh box

where abouts is the rattling coming from?my friend had rattling when he revved his car and while driving, the car was later diagnosed with a spun conrod bearing:(i hope thats not the problem

rattle or knock?
doesn't sound like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9LJP1mw0es) does it? if it does then you might be up for a rebuild or a new motor :(
probably happened from oil starvation if it did

sounds little simular but not as bad as what you linked me,
when engine is on idling doesnt have no rattle or nock sounds.. only when reving or changing gears & driving reaching 3-4rpm +

dude
its not a rocket cover
you dont have have a rocket in the engine bay
its the ROCKER cover
i was going to say spun bearing, but it doesnt just happen instantly
it only happens after long periods of oil starvation at high revs, or running without oil for long times
=( not happy what so ever,
went to two of my usual mechan's this morning and they said its going to be BIG BUCKS!
my 3rd conrods gone, by finding out the problem he pulled out the spark plug lead indivudualy 1 by 1 and reved, 3rd lead the engine went quiet at the reve ><
meaning 3rd conrods caRRrbush =(
both said to me, get a new engine , pulling it appart, post of for machining and puting it all back together gonna cost heaps + time
okay i went to another place,
told himthe story, he said it doesnt sound too bad, but if your lucky the conrods didnt damage the crank shalf then your safe quoted me $600 to be done in 1 day,
but if it did then better to get new engine..
thanks everyone, appriciated
