hey guys,

got a quick question

are the rear damper eyelet or fork type?

i was on ebay US just then, saw some rear coilovers and they are fork type

looked on my car, they are Eyelets like the DC2R's

its weird, probably someone already changed them lol

if its a 1988 model, then itll be eyelet, like type Rs

if its anything other (ie 89 onwards) then its fork type

If it's a JDM EF it doesn't matter what year it is they all came with eyelet type.

their not changed over .. eyelet is how all of em look like.
apart from the second series of gen2 CRX's 90-91 that has the fork style.

HEre is ma eyelet style

apparently eyelet style lca's promote "passive rear steering", and fork style do not. they are commonly used in foreign markets while the eyelet are left to the japs because they are better drivers than us... :(

umm... all our aussie '87/'88 ED9's are eyelets...
(all 3 of my ED9's are eyelets)

yeah pre 1990, they where revised by honda. while more "race orientated" models kept using eyelet lca's. due to the effect on "passive rear steering".
my ED9 uses forks while my old EF7 used eyelets.

as stated all EF's came out with eyelet. since yours is a JDM crx, its a EF. aus delivery were ED's

i remember when ordering shocks for mine. (not knowing this info)
In their catalogue, it was 'fork-style'. when it came time to installing them, had to re-order the 'eyelet' model.

The guy was shocked, as he ordered & installed some on a later model 4th gen civic using fork lol....

hmmm 'passive rear steering' wonder what that could be ?? wasn't in the brochure... *flipping pages of manual, looking for PRS* lol

no it wouldnt be a feature called passive rear steering

its jsut what eyelet style induces.

i.e it induces more oversteer, rather than understeer

ED6 from 89 up had fork type.

only advantage of fork type was that the oem lca utilised a curve of sorts, which helped to cancel out some of the vibrations before it reached the chassis.

if you're shopping for coilovers and looking for lca's to match, try to look for a coilover that uses an inverted shock design. due to the design of the front end (the as low as possible fetish of honda at the time), if you lower it 1-2 cm, theres only about 1-2cm clearance between your front upper control arms and the guard, so it will rub with conventional shocks. inverted shock designs help a tad bit here.
