After 3 months, 4500kms, many visits to 2 different dealers for rectification, STILL PINGING.I am informed by the dealer that Honda Australia recognise it is an issue and are working with Japan Head Office to come up with a solution.
My vehicle, a 2009 Honda Euro Luxury has been running on Vortex 98 for the entire time I have owned it so it is not a low octane fuel issue. The pinging is constant on low revs and appears worse between 20kph and 80kph then tails off until you go past 100kph when it becomes a constant engine pinging, The pinging appears to have nothing to do with putting the engine under load as on the flat with no pressure on the accelerator its sound is louder when changing automatic gears.
Now I have contacted Honda Australia directly and a Mr Heinz from Customer relations rang me personally to say they ( Honda) are aware of the problem
but would give me no time frame in which they would have a solution. All he would say was that honda would honour their warranty agreement.
It appears that other manufacturers from time to time have similar issues
but have a better attitude to keeping their customers informed. From the NRMA website I quote " Fuji Heavy Industries, Subaru's parent company in Japan, has received reports of an engine knock which has been identified as abnormal wear on conrod big end bearings. If customers experience any incidents of engine knocking noise, they are advised to contact Subaru Customer Relations immediately on 1800 22 66 43. It goes on to say ..
In Australia 1233 cars fitted with the 2.5 litre four cylinder turbocharged engines, manufactured between Tuesday 8 January and Saturday 5 April 2008, are potentially affected, covering:
* Forester XT (the new 2008 model) - chassis 002070 onwards
* Impreza WRX and WRX STI - chassis 015006 onwards
* Liberty GT sedan - chassis 038385 onwards
* Liberty GT wagon - chassis 068148 onwards
Subaru Australia will update its retail network and relevant customers as soon as possible, on receipt of further advice from Fuji Heavy Industries.
This will also include advice regarding 171 potentially affected vehicles already with customers.
As far as Subaru Australia is aware, no customers have reported instances in Australia, but if any are forthcoming, they will be given a loan car until their vehicles can be checked and, where necessary, fixed.
From this it would indicate they value their customers more highly than honda do.
It really is unacceptable that you spend $45,000 with Honda then are kept in the dark for this length of time as to what is wrong with the vehicle and when they are going to fix it.
Has anyone been given any more information about engine pinging than I have with their new 2009 Euro. If they have i would certainly like to hear from them.
