wreckers: less then 50 bucks easily. Probably get it from an ED Civic i guess.

Honda: Might be able to get it for you as well.

It might be similiar to other models. post up a pic of yours.

May I ask how you came to the conclusion that your proportioning valve is "on the way out"?

I didnt think you could use the valve off the ED at the wreckers.. unless u find one off another ED9... most ED's i find in wreckers are ED6's and they are disk/drum... arnt ED9's disk/disk, and wouldn't that require different proportioning??

The pedal feels spongy, pedal dropping to the ground, requires more force to get the car to stop, etc.

If the paint is flaking from the bracket thats holding the prop valve to the firewall. u know theres a leak there, or very oily from brake fluid.

rip one off an eg/ek with discs rear?

if its disc/disc and looks the same as other Prop valves then you could use one from an EG/EK Hatches. Probably even use one from a non ABS Del sol too.

Sounds like an old master cylinder to me.

well i just changed my booster as it was leaking and we checked everything else and the master was sucking alot of fluid and we checked the proportioning valve and that was the problem, so time to get a new one.

if your pedal sinks to the ground, its more likely a problem with the master cylinder, evident by it sucking up a lot more fluid. if however, your front is locking up more than your rear, or your rear is locking up more than your front, then it would be your prop valve.

you wont be able to use a prop valve from an ED6 civic, disc/drum combos use different proportions. master cylinder will probably be useless as well as the 13/16" from an ed6 civic will be too spongy for all round discs, so you'll be better off looking for an ED9 CRX wreck.

yes you can get one from honda but it would most likley be ex japan so expect a 3 week wait for the part.

have a look at

There is some data (part numbers) regarding the various P.V.'s relevant to our cars.

Do you still use the 4040 PV on an EG DC2R Conversion with no ABS? I've done Booster/MC, and rear dics/handbrake. Front is still stock but new calipers are coming in a week, but I'm unsure which Prop Value to use when it comes to a non ABS setup.

Use a DA9 40 40 prop valve. Stock Eg4 is 30/40 which is fine, im running itr brake booster and mc with it and upgrade to 262mm and uprgading from drums to rear disc.

Its best to change if u are upgrading from drums to disc, otherwise ur stock prop valve running the stock rear disc brakes are perfect. For piece of mind when u driving in the wet and you slam your brakes u dont want the rear to lock up sending ur tail swinging which is dangerous.

Use a DA9 40 40 prop valve.

Perfect, thanks.

The stock EG4 30/40 is fine, I've been running it for over 6 months now. I have locked up once in the dry, and I felt the rears lock up first which I'm sure the 4040 fixes.

IMHO, that's a serious safety issue which you'll probably only get a chance to test when you really need it.

go the 4040 ASAP.
