hey guys,

I plan to purchase the below:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/K-N-Pod-Air-Filter-2000-2008-Honda-s2000_W0QQitemZ200286657717QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_C ar_Parts_Accessories?hash=item200286657717&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

I just want to know, is it going to make that air filter sound, or it wont because its still inside the stock air filter box?

Cheers,

Sorry if its been covered, i tried searching =)

it will if you take the cover off, but on a hot day your car will be abit sluggish
cause of the heat soak but its not that bad cheaper way of making cold air intake could be to cut the inner panel and let more air flow into the filter

Before you pay $120, walk into a Supercheap store, and pay $106 with a day or 2's wait ;)

I didn't find much difference with the drop in filter, compared to the paper filter.

i use a stock filter and i think it's loud enough when VTEC kicks in but i wouldn't mind paying an extra $106 for a K&N for extra sound.

The only good thing about the drop in filter is that its washable. Apart from that, its just a waste of money.

Try searching for a secondhand one, usually can be found for pretty cheap :) Not sure about power gains but when i was NA you could most definiately hear it.

Thanks champ!!

I found the air filter much smoother and a little bit more responsive.

As for the sound, wont hear it as much as you will hear the engine roar =D

I modded the stock box, thats where the induction roar is at. Just open it up and you will see the "divider" between the filter and the intake snorkel. Remove it, die grind smooth etc and save the plastic. Next you cut a small piece from the plastic you cut out to "cap" off a little passage to a "dampening chamber" on the right side of the box. Than if you really want, cut a hole in the left side of the box and run an additional cold air feed from the inner guard. Then presto, induction roar, stock looking and no heatsoak from the engine bay. K&N is washable, and cheaper in the end just be sure not to over oil and it should be fine.

I can post pics if you need them

OK. Here is my car. It's a daily driver but see's plenty of track action. Police are pretty red hot down in Victoria so stealth mods are the key.

Here you can see how standard the airbox looks. I even made sure the additional cold air feed pipe look as stock as possible. You can just see it on the left of the airbox running into the inner guard behind the headlight.

Here is a close up of the additional cold air feed with the airbox lid removed.

Here you can see what the airbox looks like once you remove the "divider" from the airbox. Remove it carefully, and save the plastic you will need it later. I smoothed it all off with a small grinder.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb312/hondacoupe9s/MY%20HONDA%20S2000/CIMG0021.jpg

Here you can see the two small pieces of plastic I shaped and glued into place over the "dampening chamber" inlet made from the plastic I cut from the divider in the airbox. I have removed all manner of chambers, or air resevoirs as my mates call them in all my Honda's I own to great effect and to unleash that famouse Honda induction roar. Basically any chamber that runs off the intake tract or airbox I plug or remove. My ZC powered 1G CRX made good gains doing this and sounds great! It had a 4 litre capacity chamber off the intake tract hidden behind the front bumper!

Also don't forget to remove the "divider" in the lid of the airbox too.

That's it. I like it as it still reduces heatsoak, while delivering that VTEC ROAR, and it keeps the police off your back. Also uses the standard filter which is excellent too. Even the hole for the addtional cold air feed already exists so you can't get done for modifying the structure of the car.............yes they can get you for that in VIC too.

One thing to note, you do get some resonance at idle, that is just because you have modded the box and the path of air is no longer dampened to cancel this out. It's totally OK.

I hope you find this helpful.

P.S. If you remove your airbox lid, it is marginally louder but heatsoak kills performance. Also avoid the "pod on stick" solution where the filter is mounted unshielded in the engine bay, it's a sure way to make your S2000 slower!

James.

I'm not really good with computers, Whats REP? It took me 2 years to learn how to post a picture!!!

If my computer had VTEC I would probably spend more time trying to understand it........................come to think of it, same for my girlfriend!:p:p:p

Under your name, it says "Points: 17".

Everytime you post something intelligent, or a DIY or provide help for someone or a link for someone to something informative etc, you get rewarded by someone like myself or other mods for showing initiaitive and being resourceful to other members. Get to 100 points and you can then start handing out your own rep points to others.

I've recently given you points in the past (probably the last person I did), thus it won't let me do it again until I rep a few other users.
