Hey guys,

To cut a long story short. Went to the drags and blew my driver side outer CV joint.

Got a few questions on how to get myself sorted.

* is there any way to know if i just need to replace my outer CV or the whole Drive shaft unit?

* How do i remove the CV boot of the old CV and the put it back on the new one?

* Where do i purchase that CV boot oil/grease and how do i apply it?

Thanks in advance

Regards Lyle

Best way you will be able to tell is take it out and feel it by hand , I wouldnt recommend driving on it to diagnose if its inner or outter,

taking the boot off / fitting new one on, for best and easiest way , have the shaft out.

Go into any car store, super cheap, autobarn, bursons, and get a boot kit, with it comes boot, clamps, and grease.

thats the simple advice, other stuff I cant really write out because it will take too long.

Ps forgot to mention, you will most likely will need to get it recondition, so the above stuff wont be needed really, they will fit new boots , clamps and grease, all you will have to do it refit back to car,

wouldnt hurt to look into some custom ones, or more reinforced Bells / Joints

yeh for sure mate, i was thinkin just goin to a wrecker and picking up the parts. deffinately outside CV, the shaft is just spinning freely in the outer CV boot.

I i were just to get it reconditioned, where would i take it and what would i do. just remove the complete driver side drive shaft (inner/outer cv and shaft) and take it to a replace to repair it?

If the joint is spinning on the shaft more than likely the shaft will be stuffed so best to get a changeover complete driveshaft or a secondhand one.

yep ^ if its spinning freely, you will need a new shaft

have a chat to darryl lyle. He's told me of a good local(east side) place that does CV reconditioning.

Shafts are easy to take out. a few of the regular SEQ guys have done it a fair few times.

If you need a hand just yell mate.

bit of a long shot but try contacting these guys (http://stores.ebay.com.au/DRIVELINE-SUPER-STORE)
aussie seller located in sydney but they ship australia wide
picked up my new set of b series shafts for about $220 and it's been running great :)

reconditioned ends with new boots and balancers, good quality stuff and cheap too
no need to trade in your old shafts either

all you'd have to do is pull out the old and slot in the new, too easy

not a car but this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8iZpjPG4xM) might help
basically the same thing regarding removal
crack hub nut, remove wheel, pop lower ball joint, tap shaft out of hub and swing knuckle to the side, pry out the shaft from the gearbox
go reverse to reinstall :)

if you need more visual aids this (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12789&highlight=gearbox) guide that wyn and ben did a while back should be enough
