hey guys ,
basically i got a pair of alpine type s splits. However i want to use the boston pro's tweeter and crossever, and the alpine woofer since it will fit in my door. So can i use this combo ? pro's and con's ?

i dont imagine there would be a great amount of problems in doing this (if there are any problems with doing this)

well apart from the power differences, i thought maybe the crossover was specifically designed for each tweeter/speaker...but ill just try it out and see if it sounds good

not gonna write a essay but check if the crossover points are.. for lack of a better word, compatible. wheres the boston mid-bass drivers??

what do u mean by crossover points ????
The midbass drivers , i cant them nicely into the car , so i wont be using them.

the points where the crossover cuts the frequencies going to each driver. think of them as fixed hpf/lpf's.

well the frequency (of speakers) of the alpines is 70Hz-22khz, and the boston is 50-22khz. Does this help with finding out ???

nope..
we're not looking for what range of frequencies the set can play alltogether, but the crossover POINTS. it should state them in the boston manual if you have it. i guess look in the alpine manual too for your midbass drivers.

hmm they dont state it. guess you can only try it out and hope nothing goes wrong. or, since theyre an upgrade, make a spacer for the bostons midbasses to fit.

i think it'll stick with the matching alpine setup, bostons are really good but even with spacers, i cant put the factory speaker cover over which is wat i want

it will tho it would most prolly not be the most effective match. i'm guessing both midwoofers are 4 ohm so will work fine.

I recently installed a pioneer System to my car FD Honda, the back speakers were Pioneer 3 way the front doors Pioneer 2way speakers. I had a pair of Clarion Tweeters with cross overs attached so I put them up front with the Pioneers, the sound is great.

actually one is 3ohm, the other is 4ohm.....
hmm

3 ohm? if so its not going to be a good match. the crossover point for the midwoofer will change. can't remember if it goes up or down. which one is 3ohm? thats really weird. most car speakers are 4ohm. tweets etc tho can be higher like 8ohm etc but your using the crossover for that tweet so thats not an issue

the point shifts higher, i think. i cant remember either so dont quote me :p
but yer the impedance of 3 is weird, lucky you didnt try it out kelvin..

doesn't make sense and don't bother with a active setup. just run it and see how it sounds it'll either have a hole or overlap in freq response

why not?

the op didnt even know what crossover points were, let alone where they should be at roughly once he does go active. he could potentially make it sound worse because he wont know what he's doing, no offence to the OP.

just buy another pair check the jaycar website they have kevler splits by response these guys have quite a few awards with the speakers etc. blow up woofers and splits or buy a kevler set for the 130 bux. u can also buy the crossover box

everytime a customer do this...they always ending up breaking the whole set up and always wants a repair, exchange or refund!!!
so probably its not advisable to mix and match
