Hi everyone, I am new to this forum.
I have a problem and wondering if anyone have any idea what the problem is.
I have a 2004 Honda Euro with automatic transmission.
A few months ago I noticed sometimes I cannot shift my gear from P to D.
Sometimes I just have to wait for a while, and it will work again, sometimes it takes pretty long.
Just today, I waited for almost 30 min, and I still couldn't shift the gear to D.
I even tried stopping the engine, and poked my key into the little slot next to the gear box and I still cannot change gear.
Sometimes if I press on the break hard and for a long period, it works, so I am suspecting the problem is related to the break. Also, not sure if it was a coincident, but this happened not long after I had a service for my car.
Any opinion guys and girls?

Make sure you apply the brakes b4 shifting....

Take a look and see if your brake lights are working. The switch that engages the brake lights also controls the Park lock so you cant shift out of park unless your foot is on the brake. The switch is on the brake pedal arm under the dash, simple to replace. Its a place to start.
The other possibility is you are parked on a incline and all the weight of the vehicle is pressing on the park mechanism. In this case have someone push on the car slightly and take it out of park.

Thanks Mars_panas
It is not a problem of myself forgetting to apply on the break,
or seat belt, etc.
I think it has something to do with the switch you mentioned.
Will do some tests and see what I come up with.
At first I thought the vechicle needed to be warmed up,
as I used to be able to wait for a while and it will work again.

its called "honda dealer"

even if we solve the problem here youll still need to go there. as if a brake switch fault is stored it will need to be erased from the system.

start your car and press the brake pedal. with the little whoosh you hear you should hear a click.
off the brakes and hear another click
to it repetitively and the click sound should correspond to your on/off movements.
if you hear no click, then it could be two things.
your brake switch. or the lock solenoid on your gear shit lever.

When you get off your car do you push you wheel, cause sometimes when you trun off your car and you trun your wheel after that it will lock you wheel and I think it also lock you gears

It sounds like the switch or relay that allows you to put the car into drive when you put your foot on the brake is playing up.I think it'll have to be replaced.BTW i have a manual so i'm only guessing.

Thanks everyone.
I have a friend who is a mechanic at NRMA and someone who is a Honda dealer say it is most likely the brake switch and we will just replace it and see how it goes.
