main concern is the health of the engine, exhaust, suspensions. basically the whole package

so i know the basics, what im asking for are tips (even specifically for the CXIs - man. transmission) to better my inspection

-looking at the oil through the dipstick (smooth feel, clearish yellow/slightly brown not gritty)
-check the ease of gears shifting
-pushing down to test suspension on ea corner (shouldn't bounce)
-looking under hood for rust, drips
now, whats the best way to check for wearing?
-brakes should not squeal
-stock CXI should be able to push 40 even 45 on first, and 80s on second
-exhaust??

anything else would really help.
much appreciated

- check rubbers for corrosion (esp. the main/big rubber toward the front of the rear trailing arms). minor surface cracks are ok.
- try your best to check all rubbers in the engine mounts. as above minor surface cracks are ok.
- how many k's has it done? has it had the 100k/200k major service? IE: timing belt change
- is a common problem for the clutch to squeak when you press it - no biggy. if it's really bad u can grab a clutch master cylinder for about $100
- run your finger across the front brake rotors. ifs its a lil lumpy they made need machining on next brake pad change - not very expensive but an extra cost. if it's real bumpy the owner may have skimped on getting them done previously - which personally leads me to wonder what else they may have skimped on!
- any mods? a manual CXi with basic I/H/E will hit rev limiter at ~95kmh in 2nd
- check engine bay before test drive. take note of clean spots and dirty spots. recheck them after test drive. if nothing else make sure you check for leaks AFTER a test drive when things have warmed up and fluid systems have been pressurised.

about all i can think of briefly

also go thro the owners manual and see when things were last done as per schedule

i had a look at it, alot of the points were all green
one issue that is troubling me is when the car drives (even accelerate) there is a squeal on both front L and R wheels. it stops when brakes are applied, im not too sure what this is, perhaps an issue with the pads or even discs?

cheers

umm i had a look at the wheels - couldn't really inspect the pads behind the caps

the suspension seemed fine when i pushed down on the car
would the sound be coming from the pads/discs seeing as the sound stopped when brakes were applied

cheers
